Schedules are settled months in advance giving per diem employees the opportunity to select from a variety of shifts on a monthly basis (days, evenings, nights, weekdays, and weekends) with no minimum or maximum coverage requirements. Depending upon the PA's availability, our per diem shifts can range from 8-13 hours. We are located on the NWH Main Campus at 2014 Washington Street, Newton, 02462.Our PAs are responsible for covering the Emergency Department and the inpatient floor while also conducting inpatient surgical consults and providing Operating Room coverage. The Physician Assistants on the Pediatrics Orthopedics team share some of their time with the NWH Neurological Surgery Service. Providers work autonomously to the top of their licensure and are responsible for:Present and discuss evaluations with Attending Surgeons to determine proper treatment plans.Order diagnostic tests and interpret results.Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to: wound care/debridement; tube/drain insertion, care or removal; suturing/suture removal; insertion or removal of traction pins; splint, brace or cast application or removal; medication administration including IV push drugs and the injection of steroid and anesthetic agents; insertion or removal of central venous lines; insertion of nasogastric tubes; bladder catheterization; phlebotomy and IV insertion; and electrocardiograms.Conduct daily patient rounds and attend weekly grand surgical rounds.Participate in the discharge planning process.Educate and counsel patients and families.Orient medical students, physician assistant, and surgical residents to the environment, patient care practices, and hospital policies and procedures.Participate in the quality improvement/quality assurance process.Are you ready to bring your talent to this team and join us in driving medicine forward?
