Job Description - Nursing Practice Specialist Surgical (3305076)Our Ellison 19 Thoracic and Vascular Surgery Unit is seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)/Nursing Practice Specialist (NPS).Ellison 19 is a 30-bed adult thoracic, laryngeal, and vascular surgical general care unit. The thoracic and laryngeal surgery patients require post-operative care and airway management. The vascular surgery patients undergo vascular surgery or interventional radiology procedures to improve arterial and venous blood flow. The unit is licensed for 20 telemetry beds. The patient care delivery model is patient-focused, supported by relationship-based care nursing. Care is high quality, comprehensive, accessible, encouraging, and personalized!Primary responsibilities of the CNS/NPS include:
Supporting independent nursing practice through consultative and role modeling activities.Applying new technology, nursing theories, research findings, and experiential knowledge to improve nursing practice.Responding to changes in clinical practice by planning, designing, implementing, or evaluating guidelines, protocols, and standards in collaboration with the nursing director, nursing staff, and others.Implementing and evaluating educational programs and practice changes based upon assessed learning needs of patients, their loved ones, and staff.Reasons to Choose MGH

Massachusetts RN License required.Master's degree in Nursing.Minimum of five years RN experience in a surgical setting.Thoracic and Vascular Surgery RN experience preferred.Knowledge guide in providing care for the surgical patient across the continuum.Dedication to both bedside instructing and formal hospital education programs.Ability to multi-task and to support staff nurses, who range from novice to those with 30+ years of experience.Ability to develop and support unit-based quality improvement/research projects.Graduation from a graduate degree program with a clinical practicum designed to prepare the graduate for practice as a CNS that is approved by a national accrediting organization for academic programs acceptable to the Board.Successful completion of, at minimum, core content at the graduate level in sophisticated assessment, advanced pathophysiology, and pharmacotherapeutics.Current CNS certification granted by a Board recognized certifying organization.Nursing Practice Specialist Requirements
