The CT Technologist performs diagnostic imaging procedures using computed tomography (CT) equipment to capture high-quality images of patients' internal structures. The role involves interacting with patients, positioning them correctly, administering contrast agents when needed, and ensuring accurate image acquisition for the radiologist to interpret. The CT Tech ensures safety, maintains equipment, and follows protocols while providing compassionate care to patients.Key Responsibilities:Under general supervision and following established procedures, operates CT equipment (e.g. CT scanner, Power Injector, Laser Printer, Patient monitoring devices, etc.) to acquire images for use by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of pathologies.Staff will be required to float among radiology clinics and divisions associated with BWH as needed.Operates CT equipment to obtain diagnostic images and information according to departmental protocol.Ensures the patient is properly prepared, positioned, immobilized and uses protective shield on the patient as needed.Selects proper imaging factors, and images the designated portion(s) of the body.Explains exam to patient taking into consideration physical and emotional needs; maintains ethical standards (patient confidentiality, professional conduct, etc.).Delivers patient care under scope of license/training.Maintain effective working relations and communication with departmental and other hospital personnel.Calibrate and verify the operation of all equipment to be used during the work day. Notify appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed.Execute paperwork and Radiology Information System functions as necessary for each patient exam (e.g. schedule exam, complete exam, transfer images to PACS, etc.).Performs venipuncture for purposes of contrast administration under the direction of a radiologist. Follow all hospital and departmental contrast administration policies and procedures.Attend staff meetings, in-services, and maintain appropriate CEUs in accordance with Massachusetts State Licensure and A.R.R.T. (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) requirements.May oversee and instruct various personnel and technology students (medical radiography, CT, nuclear medicine) within the department.Prepare the equipment room and supplies necessary for each patient and regular daily use. Stock and supply room as needed.Acknowledge and participate in research programs, quality assurance and quality improvement projects carried on in the department.Assume responsibilities for on-call coverage and remain flexible in all shift coverage and overtime situations as necessary.Rotate within department, divisions and all off site clinics, by shifts as required and needed; cooperate with all personnel, promoting harmony within department.Transport and transfer patients using established procedures according to departmental guidelines.Uses independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative under pressure in a variety of situations when performing patient exams.Perform all other duties as directed.Qualifications:Education: Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or related field.Certification: ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification in Radiography (ARRT-R) and Computed Tomography (ARRT-CT).Licensure: Valid state license for Radiologic Technology (if required by state).BLS/CPR Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.Experience: Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a CT Tech is preferred.Skills and Abilities:Proficiency in operating CT scanners and associated software.Knowledge of anatomy, radiographic positioning, and the principles of radiation physics.Strong patient communication and care skills, with an emphasis on patient safety and comfort.Attention to detail with the ability to follow strict protocols and procedures.Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle stressful situations calmly.Work Environment:Work is performed in a hospital or imaging center environment.Requires standing for long periods, moving patients, and handling medical equipment.Potential exposure to radiation, infectious diseases, and bloodborne pathogens.Shift/Hours:Full-time, part-time, and per-diem positions available.May require day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.Precision Scans is an equal opportunity employer, committed to cultural diversity.
