The Accounting Manager is responsible for directing and overseeing the monthly and quarterly accounting close process. This position assists in monitoring accounting practices within the department to ensure the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results and that reported results comply with both Cash and GAAP principles. This position directly supervises the property staff accountants and senior property accountants. After completing training, this position transitions to a hybrid work schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting Oversight:

Direct and oversee the monthly and quarterly accounting close process.Review monthly financial statements for properties to ensure timeliness and accuracy.Ensure all necessary steps are taken to meet financial reporting obligations and stakeholder/owner needs.Review acquisition/financings on new properties and disbursement activity for new and older assets.Supervision and Mentoring:

Provide mentoring and guidance to staff and senior accountants.Prepare monthly staffing and workload schedules.Ensure proper cash balances are maintained with each property and approve related AP batches.Create and monitor the process for assessing working capital needs at each property/portfolio. Requesting and ensuring timely receipt of necessary owner funding.Review variance analysis on a consolidated level and research variances/discrepancies.Project Management:

Track new acquisitions and sales of properties as needed.Complete other reporting, accounting, and analytical projects as assigned.Work with other departments (including AP, Operations, and Asset Management) to resolve discrepancies.Recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.Internal Controls and Process Improvement:

Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls that result in minimal audit findings, where appropriate.Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.Innovation and Process Improvement:

Identify opportunities for process improvements and lead the development and implementation of innovative solutions.Adopt and promote technology tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy in accounting processes.Additional Duties:

Handle property wire and ACH activity and related approvals as assigned.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in accounting from a four-year college or university.Over 10 years up to 15 years of prior professional experience, preferably in accounting in a real estate environment.Certifications/Licenses: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.Advanced skills in Yardi (or comparable general ledger software program).Measures of Success:
