Job Purpose:

The Director of Communications and Marketing

is responsible for overseeing and managing Hope Atlanta’s internal and external communications programs to ensure the effective delivery of strategic, fundraising, and reputational messages that advance the organization's mission and objectives of the Development Team. As one of the oldest, largest, and most comprehensive providers of housing services for low-income and vulnerable populations in the greater Atlanta area, Hope Atlanta has a rich history and a bold vision for the future. In 2023, we launched a new strategic plan that positions the organization for continued success, and we are excited to celebrate our 125th Anniversary next year.

This pivotal role will report to Hope Atlanta’s Chief Development Officer and serve as the first full-time marketing professional internal to Hope Atlanta, as this position has been previously managed by a third-party vendor. The Director will have the unique opportunity to build and lead a comprehensive marketing function from the ground up, with a focus on developing and executing targeted messaging that elevates the organization’s brand, enhances its storytelling, and supports its mission.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader, experienced in creating systems to manage fast-paced marketing efforts while driving engagement across multiple channels. They should be comfortable managing external partners and third-party vendors, ensuring cohesive and strategic execution of marketing activities within budget. As we look toward our 125th year of service, this role will be instrumental in positioning Hope Atlanta to elevate our work and our impact in the city of Atlanta.

This position is based in Atlanta, GA and is a hybrid role with a comprehensive benefits package with medical, dental, and vision. We offer generous paid time off and 15 company paid holidays.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Provides strategic counsel to the CEO and senior leadership team as a trusted communications professional with sound judgment and the ability to earn trust.

Values Hope Atlanta’s mission and culture and takes a vested interest in positioning the organization well with both internal and external stakeholders.

Ensures consistent messaging across all communication channels, including supporting fundraising campaigns.

Develops and implements comprehensive communications strategies, campaigns, and materials to influence key target audiences (board of directors, advisory council, donors, policymakers, community partners, media, etc.).

Collaborates with the fundraising team to create marketing materials that support donor engagement, fundraising campaigns, and special events.

Leads email marketing efforts through platforms such as MailChimp, developing and managing campaigns, newsletters, and donor communications.

Creates and monitors field reports to convey the organization's performance, impact, and engagement.

Oversees the creation of press releases, media pitches, and other communications materials.

Secures media coverage through proactive pitching and relationship building.

Builds relationships with key local and national press contacts, handling inquiries.

Monitors and analyzes media coverage, providing insights and recommendations to enhance strategies.

Manages Hope Atlanta’s digital and social media channels, ensuring fresh content through calendars and creative assets.

Leads website management, including regular updates, improvements, and engagement metrics.

Helps collect and curate client testimonials to share through blogs, emails, and video.

Finds, tracks, and manages public-sector award applications and other platforms to enhance visibility and reputation.

Tracks and reports on the success of public relations and marketing campaigns using metrics and analytics.

Stays updated on local, state, and national trends and best practices around homelessness, housing affordability, equity, and other intersectional issues to ensure innovative and effective PR strategies.

Oversees executive team events, speaking engagements, planning, and logistics.

Manages a third-party vendor to assist with either communications or design work, ensuring strategic and cost-effective use of services.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree a plus.

Minimum of 7-10 years experience overseeing marketing efforts.

In-depth knowledge of application processes, budgeting principles, and financial management.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).

Proficiency using CRM systems such as Client Track/HMIS and Salesforce experience a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to understand and articulate organizational values/goals and programs and work collaboratively with staff and external partners/donors.

Experience working with government entities and securing at least $5,000,000 in government contracts and awards.

Ability to effectively supervise fundraising efforts through direct supervision of employees and project management.

Excellent written and persuasion skills.

Demonstrated ability to achieve and grow aggressive goals.

Demonstrated ability to think strategically and take initiative.

Proven competency with data mining, data analysis, and donor research.

Strong organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Experienced at managing multiple tasks simultaneously, establishing priorities, working calmly under pressure, and managing competing deadlines and shifting priorities.

Demonstrated success in devising sophisticated cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation strategies.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Work in a hybrid / flexible work environment with headquarters blocks from Ponce City Market.

Travel (10%): Capacity to travel throughout greater Atlanta for meetings and events.
