POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Director of Development serves as a member of the leadership team, providing strategic guidance in financial development to advance the YMCAs mission through annual giving, government and foundation grants, endowment bequests and gifts, and capital campaigns. This position guides the budget, development, and implementation of all the Y's fundraising strategies, mission communications, and public relations activities, both external and internal.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

1.Significant experience in fundraising with proven success in major gifts, annual fundraising campaigns, &/or special events is required.

2.Minimum bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 5 years' professional fundraising experience required.

3.Five years of senior leadership experience is preferred.

4.Experience with the development of strategic approaches to fundraising and communications required.

5.Foundation and government grant writing expertise required.

6.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and GiveButter (or similar donor management databases).

Essential Functions

1.Engage, educate and excite our donors to support the Y’s primary fundraising campaign and grow our culture of philanthropy as a nonprofit.

2.Provides leadership to create strategy, policies, and procedures to shape, define and achieve the Development Department goals of the Y's strategic plan.

3.Directs and achieves organizational goals for our foundation, planned giving, and legacy campaigns.

4.Achieves goals set forth in Major Gifts development ($5,000+)

5.Achieves goals set forth in existing and the development of new corporate sponsorships ($5,000+)

6.Assists with the development of a Living Our Cause culture throughout the organization, tying the culture to the ability of our employees to act philanthropically on behalf of our Development Department while driving our mission.

7.Partners with the organization’s Leadership Team to create a philanthropic culture in which staff understands our need for Development funding and where the dollars are being allocated, vividly tying these to our mission and strategic plan.

8.Creates high-level communication plans to ensure members, participants, and the community understand the case for support.

9.Provides staff leadership for the Development Department for the Board of Directors and the Foundation Board of Trustees.

10.Manages resources needed to carry out the Development Department plans; establishes and monitors the organization's department budget.

11.Assists the CEO in developing an engaged fundraising volunteer board of directors.

12.Works closely with development staff (two full-time) and leads weekly team meetings.

13.Works closely with Leadership Team to analyze development plan results and proactively develop tactical strategies to address areas where goals are not being met.
