Duties

WHAT IS THE INDEPENDENT OFFICE OF APPEALS (AP) DIVISION?

A description of the business units can be found at: Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas: Independent Office of Appeals; Case and Operations Support; Specialized Exam Prog and Ref; Collection Appeals; Examination Appeals.The following are the duties of this position at the full working level:Holds conferences and negotiates issues with taxpayers/representatives to resolve tax disputes in a fair and impartial manner. Taxpayers are often officers of publicly traded companies and representatives are typically from the most prestigious national law and accounting firms.Advises and coaches team members regarding their team assignments. Provides appropriate and substantive feedback on team assignments to the team member and his/her immediate manager. This feedback is both written and oral; provided on a timely and ongoing basis; addresses the appropriate critical job elements and aspects; and follows guidelines prescribed by the Chief Appeals, the Director, and the Appeals Area Director as to timing, form and content of the feedback.Communicates and fosters dialogue with peers, customers, and partners. Leads several teams that work cases and coaches individual employees in the accomplishment of team objectives and effective problem solving.Requirements

As a reminder - If you are selected for a position, you are responsible for reporting to your designated POD (location) on the negotiated start date or as directed by management.Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).Employment of any candidate selected for this position may be conditional on classification and/or audit of federal tax returns (may include up to 2 years of returns).Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume.You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-07:

You must have at least one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience with business issues & practices, basic accounting principles, and demonstrates knowledge of tax laws and regulations.OR

One year of graduate education in a related field of study such as: business administration, finance, accounting, auditing, taxation, law or other related fields.OR

Superior Academic Achievement may be met by having a Bachelor's degree, with one of the following: A GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all completed undergraduate courses or those completed in the last 2 years of study, or a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all courses in your major field of study or those courses in your major completed in the last 2 years of study, or rank in the upper one third of your class in the college, university, or major subdivision, or membership in a national honor society recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies.OR

Combination of qualifying graduate education and experience equal to that described above.How to Apply
