Job Details:

This position is responsible for assisting the Surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the operative patient.

In Cardiac Surgery (CVOR), uses a variety of specialized equipment to assist the physician in the performance of invasive procedures resulting in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and peripheral vascular disease.

Arranges and inventories sterile set-up for operation and passes items as needed to the surgical team.

Understands and applies the principles of asepsis. Establishes and maintains sterile field and assures team maintains sterile environment.

Assists in preparation and moving of patients.

Assists physician in performing invasive procedures.

Scrubs in for handling guide wires, catheter, flushing catheters, and other scrub duties as assigned.

Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation. Assists with clean-up and room turnover.

Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images.

Performs pre-procedural patient care activities.

Monitors and records patient’s condition and procedures’ progress.

Retrieves and reviews patient data.

Operates and maintains clinical equipment.

Participates in all safety initiatives.

Adheres to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Accredited Program Preferred: Surgical Technology. or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist

Required: 2+ years of CVOR surgical technologist experience

Required: 2+ years of previous experience working in a hospital setting

Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs
