Position Summary
The Chief Financial and Operations Officer (CFOO) will manage the finance and operation functions of the School. The CFOO works closely with the Head of School and senior administrative team. The CFOO works with the Finance & Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees to ensure effective fiscal management of the School and its investments. This role works with the Building and Grounds Committee and the Facilities staff to maintain the campus property at a high level.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Partnerships
Lead the Board in the areas of finances, facilities, risk management, and investments.
Collaborate with fellow administrative team members to support operations that are aligned with the schools mission and meet the schools strategic objectives.
Conduct regular meetings with division and department heads to ensure that fiscal priorities are clear and coordination is sound.
Foster, maintain, and manage relationships with adjacent neighborhoods and numerous outside vendors.
Represent the school in local, regional, and national organizations.
Develop department and operations goals, objectives, and systems.
Financial Planning and Financial Management
Manage the planning and execution of the operating and capital budgeting process.
Provide the planning and execution of long-term financing as needed.
Manage the schools long-term endowment investments and short-term cash investments.
Supervise the accounting of all transactions during the fiscal year and prepare financial reports for the Board and annual statements for our year-end audit.
Operations
Oversee the facilities and security departments to ensure a safe and secure campus for all students, employees, and visitors.
Mentor the technology office to oversee and manage the schools computer infrastructure and classroom platforms for the lower, middle, and upper school levels and support all departmental technology needs.
Provide leadership to the summer camp program, ensuring the camps objectives are met.
Oversee the athletics program and provide support as needed.
Lead the planning and execution of design through the construction of various projects.
Provide support for the school's philanthropy initiatives.
Support the Enrollment Management team in the financial aid process, prepare files for committee review, and respond to family inquiries.
Partner with Human Resources and external brokers annually to review benefits and retirement plans.
Maintain a culture of integrity and customer service in all dealings.
Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations.
Comply with School policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The CFOO supervises the business office, facilities, information technology, security, athletics, financial aid, school store, school transportation program, and summer programs personnel.
Education and Experience
A Bachelors degree and seven years of equivalent experience. An advanced degree in accounting or business is preferred. An in-depth understanding of an independent school business model is essential.
Skills
Has managerial dexterity to address multiple projects on a daily basis.
Strong writing and public speaking abilities.
Ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets.
Ability to make presentations to all constituent groups of the School.
Frequent contact with vendors and consultants outside of the School such as banks, lawyers, architects, builders, brokers, and insurance agents.
Must be sensitive to and manage personnel in multiple departments.
Must have a strong knowledge of facility management, building design, and construction.
Ability to understand and work with the technology systems that support school operations.
Can identify multiple projects and prioritize them in order to meet required deadlines.
Ability to be present at school events in the evenings and weekends.
Adheres to the highest level of professionalism by demonstrating honesty, integrity, and maturity.
Consistently practices good customer service.
