OverviewWe are seeking a

Senior Laboratory Manager

to support the

Naval Health Research Center (NHRC), Operational Infectious Diseases (OID) Directorate.

This leadership position involves oversight and coordination of all laboratory sections within the OID Directorate, ensuring that laboratory activities are performed in accordance with scientific standards, regulatory requirements, and project timelines. The Senior Laboratory Manager will direct lab managers and staff, manage resources, and ensure smooth and efficient laboratory operations to support infectious disease research, diagnostics, and testing initiatives critical to military health.The OID Directorate conducts ongoing, laboratory-based surveillance of US military populations in unique environments to quantify and study the etiology of infectious illnesses. Test specimens are collected from ongoing surveillance programs and from special investigations of febrile illnesses and pneumonia among military personnel or civilians (recruits, forces afloat, deployed forces, outbreaks of concern, and border populations). In addition to the utilization of portable, rapid assay technologies to identify pathogens in the field, test specimens and limited epidemiologic data, when approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB), are provided to the NHRC laboratory where diagnostics and, in some instances, in-depth pathogen characterization is conducted. Results are provided to sponsors, the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Center, local investigators and collaborators, and, when applicable, county health units to guide proper responses that ultimately affect both the readiness of US forces and the safety of public health.CAMRIS International, LLC, is a dynamic medical research and development firm that achieves innovative solutions to health and development challenges through high-quality, cost-effective programs and research management services. Oversees and manages the activities of laboratory managers across various lab sections within the OID Directorate, providing guidance and ensuring alignment with the research center’s overall objectives.Allocates and manages laboratory resources, including personnel, equipment, reagents, and supplies, ensuring that all sections are fully equipped to conduct research and diagnostic activities.Oversees the implementation of quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) measures to ensure that all laboratory processes yield accurate, reliable, and reproducible results.Ensures that all laboratory operations are conducted according to standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality control (QC) protocols, and biosafety guidelines while maintaining compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.Coordinates and oversees compliance for clinical/research laboratory studies, including submission of all necessary approvals, annual reports, and final reports to host locations, study sponsors, and regulatory agencies.Assists with study sponsor audits and ensures the laboratory meets all regulatory requirements.Maintains detailed records of laboratory activities and performance metrics and ensures timely submission of reports and data to senior leadership and external collaborators.Develops abstracts and presents research findings at scientific conferences.Collaborates on key projects within the program and participates in or supports grant applications.Assists with budgeting for laboratory operations, including identifying cost-saving opportunities and managing expenditures related to lab activities.Conducts employee performance evaluations and oversees daily work activities.Ensures all staff are properly trained and participate in mandatory role-related training sessions.Performs other tasks as needed.Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, or a related scientific discipline. An advanced degree is preferred but not required.Ten (10) years of relevant experience, with five (5) years in a supervisory role, ideally within a biomedical research or infectious disease context.Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.Expertise in laboratory safety, quality management, and regulatory compliance.Proven experience in resource management, including budgeting and procurement.Familiarity with biosafety levels, infectious disease diagnostics, and related laboratory technologies.Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and liaise with military and civilian stakeholders.Advanced understanding of CLIA, OSHA, and CAP requirements.Experience writing standard operating procedures (SOPs) or laboratory protocols necessary for accreditation.Experience developing and maintaining research studies involving testing in the laboratory.
