Summary
The Deputy Editor-in-Chief is responsible for assisting the Editor-in-Chief in running the newspaper. Normal responsibilities include planning story assignments and layouts, assisting writers in the completion of their articles, writing articles, and recruitment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Oversees and assists with the overall writing of the paper
Meets weekly with section editors to discuss progress of the paper
Attends weekly general staff meetings
Maintains weekly-posted office hours in
The Xavierite
office (6 hours per week)
Meets and works with Section correspondents in generating story ideas
Trains Section correspondents on InDesign and Photoshop
Uploads final PDF copy of the paper to Park Press’ FTP if Editor-in-Chief is unable to
Meets weekly with Xavierite webmasters to ensure website has up-to-date information
Meets weekly with Assistant Director of Campus Life: Student Media to discuss progress on the paper
Writes one article per issue
Qualifications
MUST BE A STUDENT AT SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY
FEDERAL WORK STUDY REQUIRED
Experience in journalism, communication, or English preferred.
Description of Hours: 6-8 hours per week
