As a System Engineer within the NDI team, you will be responsible for the design, procurement, configuration, deployment, testing, and troubleshooting of air, land, sea, and subsea surveillance and interdiction systems. The position requires practical and hands-on skills with network racking and stacking; various cabling work for network, power, and connectivity; network and firewall design and configuration; and systems design and integration work with command-and-control software packages. These systems integrate surveillance technologies such as radars, EO/IR cameras, AIS, sonars, wireless PTP backhaul products, networking/communications hardware, and operational systems/centers. This job requires both CONUS and OCONUS travel for the installation of these systems. This position works under general supervision and direction of the Director of Engineering and will be expected to support a broad range of NDI programs and work closely with various engineering disciplines and field service engineers.
This position may be hybrid or in-office at the NDI office in San Diego, California.Duties and ResponsibilitiesSYSTEMS ENGINEERINGDevelops/Validates system requirements and system/subsystem design (including networking architectural design) based on customer/program budgetsMaintain configuration control of system and subsystem specificationsUtilize controlled documentation and government standards, application guides, and industry best practices to support the design, integration, and installation processSupport acquisition of hardware and software from suppliers/vendorsSupport and participate in technical design, review, and troubleshooting activitiesDesign, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems, and subsystemsDocument component, system, subsystem operations, ICD’s, Interconnect Diagrams, Mean Time Between Failure, and track End of LifeSpecify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems, and servicesFamiliarity with DoD Risk Management FrameworkDesign and develop prototypes to reduce development riskUse of computer aided design/analysis software in performance of assignmentsAbility to work independently and provide regular reporting of progress and statusParticipate in proposal development and cost estimating activitiesSupport, communicate, and attend engineering, customer, and business meetingsCONUS/OCONUS travel required (estimated 10% annually)RequirementsMinimum 4 years of professional system engineering experienceAbility to manage multiple, simultaneous workloads effectively, including adapting to changes, planning, organizing, and prioritizing workAbility to communicate effectively in distributed work environmentMicrosoft 365 Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint ExperiencePreferred CapabilitiesFamiliarity with various surveillance sensors such as EO/IR sensors, S/X-Band radars, sonar, AIS, ADS-B and related Command & Control software suitesMicrosoft Dynamics 365 Business CentralMS Project or Smartsheet Project Management SoftwareCybersecurity Experience in Commercial or DoD (NIST/CMMC)Experience with CSfC network solutionsTower climbing certification, or willingness to earnOther RequirementsMust be a US CitizenMust possess a US Passport and be willing to travel both CONUS and OCONUSMust possess or be able to achieve a current DoD secret security clearanceWork Experience & EducationBachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or other engineering disciplinePlease note this position is contingent upon contract award – we are currently recruiting and interviewing candidates and expect to extend a contingent offer to a qualified applicant.
