Job Description:

Advanced Technology Leaders, Inc. is seeking qualified applicants to support the Small Business Administration (SBA) in the production implementation, support and operations of its custom solution that leverages the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Database Architect specializing in PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MongoDB to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing database architectures that support high performance, scalability, and reliability across AWS and on-prem environments. This role requires a strong understanding of cloud architecture, database optimization, and security best practices. This role will involve close collaboration with software engineers, DevOps, and other stakeholders to ensure our databases align with both current and future business needs.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Design strategies for enterprise database systems and set standards for operations, programming, and security. Design and construct large relational databases. Integrate new systems with existing warehouse structure and refine system performance and functionality.

Database Design & Architecture:Lead the design and implementation of scalable, robust database architectures using PostgreSQL and AWS Aurora PostgreSQL.Ensure databases are optimized for performance, reliability, and security.Architect solutions to meet current and future data storage, retrieval, and processing needs.Collaborate with development teams to optimize data retrieval, processing and schema design.Cloud Database Management:

Design and manage AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and DocumentDB clusters, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery capabilities.Optimize database instances for performance and cost-efficiency within the AWS ecosystem.Collaborate with DevOps teams to manage backups, failovers, and disaster recovery strategies.Performance Tuning & Optimization:

Monitor database performance and identify bottlenecks, implementing optimizations such as indexing, partitioning, and query optimization.Conduct capacity planning to anticipate future database growth and performance needs.Data Security & Compliance:

Implement best practices for database security, including data encryption, access controls, and auditing.Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and internal security policies.Collaboration & Leadership:

Work closely with application developers and DevOps teams to design data models, schema changes, and stored procedures.Provide mentorship and guidance to junior database engineers and developers on best practices for database design and query optimization.Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends in cloud databases, pipelines, and data warehouses.Monitoring & Maintenance:

Set up and maintain monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve database issues.Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and patches with minimal downtime.Education Requirement:

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent.Required Experience:

Minimum four (4) years of experience as a Sr. Database Analyst in an AWS environment.Four (4) years of experience in database architecture and administration, with a strong focus on

PostgreSQL .Proven experience with

AWS Aurora PostgreSQL

and AWS cloud-native tools (RDS, CloudWatch, etc.).Experience with other relational and non-relational databases such as Oracle, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.Deep understanding of database design, normalization, indexing strategies, and query optimization.Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, including partitioning, replication, and caching strategies.Experience with disaster recovery, backup strategies, and data security within cloud environments.Preferred Experience:

Associate or higher AWS Certification in Data Engineering or Machine LearningExperience with other AWS services (Lambda, EC2, S3, etc.).Previous experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.Skills & Abilities:

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.Excellent communication and collaboration skills.Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technologies and apply them in a business context.Certifications:

AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Preferred)AWS Certified Data Engineer (Preferred)PostgreSQL Certified Professional (Preferred)

Predominantly operates in an office environment. Some periods of time may be spent in computer room and communications equipment spaces for installation, testing, and troubleshooting. Some work (less than 5%) requires moving and lifting of heavy networking equipment.
