Job Details

The Senior (Sr) Network Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability and integrity of data, voice, video, and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) infrastructure, and cloud networking services across the organization. In addition, the Sr Network Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, in addition to providing end user training where required.

What will you be doing?

Strategy & Planning

Collaborate with BIS management and department leaders to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs

Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records

Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, resiliency and disaster recovery

Acquisition & Deployment

Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, Load Balancers, Firewalls, Wireless networks, routers, switches, and other hardware

Design and deploy network infrastructure/services for IaaS, SaaS, PaaS and other cloud applications

Installation and integration of network devices from multiple vendors. Other network elements as assigned in the Home Office network backbone and at designated disaster recovery sites

Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry

Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrade

Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services

Participate in design and implementation of architectural roadmaps regarding Hybrid cloud infrastructure

Operational Management

Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.

Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed

Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices

Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances

Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information

Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports

Participate in managing all network security solutions

Keep network design documents updated as necessary

Troubleshoot and resolve service tickets assigned for Home Office network issues

Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team

On-call rotation 24x7 except for scheduled vacations and limited pre-arranged windows. As majority of major system updates are performed nights and weekends, must be available at those times. Must also be on-site during normal business hours to resolve user issues

What skills/qualifications do you need?

Education

University degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field, and/or five to seven years equivalent work experience

Certifications in Cisco, F5, Palo Alto, Azure, security, or network management systems are preferred

1+ years’ experience in a cloud environment, preferably Azure as a cloud network engineer, administrator, and/or DevOps role

Work Experience

5+ years work experience in related field

Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation

Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong, hands-on technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems

Knowledge of telephony systems, including Microsoft Team, Genesys, or other telephony platform

Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards, including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, SNMP, OSPF, BGP, LLDP, VLT, HTTP/S, HTML, SMTP, and SIP

Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience

Extensive application support experience with F5 GTM, F5 LTM, Palo Alto Firewalls, Azure Express Route

Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits

Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives

Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws

Work Conditions

On-call availability as required

Sitting for extended periods of time

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, light power tools, and to handle other computer components.

Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings.

Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
