Assesses each people supported communication strengths, preferences, and needs and identifies appropriate areas for skill development/maintenance and/or therapy. Develops skill development programs to be implemented by the direct support staff under the supervision of the Speech and Language Pathologist. Based on need, may provide individualized speech and language therapy. Typically, this communication training teaches appropriate social interaction skills or choice making as well as the use of verbal communication, manual signs, symbols, augmentative or electronic devices or picture wallets for communication purposes. Relies on knowledge, experience, and judgment with limited direction and supervision.

This position provides support for individuals with disabilities in a variety of community-based work settings, supporting the person towards independence in the work tasks and work environment, including development of natural supports, assist the person receiving services in identifying and communicating his or her requests and needs for services and supports.

Responsibilities Include:Works closely with Vocational Program Manager, and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor to maintain communication, provide feedback, standardize procedures, and expedite the Individual Plan of Employment (IPE).Promotes communication between employee (people supported) and employer. Communicates regularly with the worker and his/her team.Assists in the structure of jobs to facilitate the success of a worker. Assists in developing worksites in which job training can occur.Provides effective strategies for fading assistance to the least degree possible while maintaining acceptable worker output.Troubleshoots problems that occur in the worksite, such as production problems, method of performing tasks, attendance, and relationships with co-workersEducation/Experience:

High school diploma or (GED)Prefer experience working individuals with IDD#INDNC
