Scope of Position

The Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) leads and promotes the professional practice of nursing at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center under the direction of the CNO(s). The ACNO promotes education, research and evidence-based practice utilizing the ANA Scope of Standards for Nurses and Nurse Administrators, the ANA Code of Ethics, the ANCC Magnet standards, other specialty organization standards, Relationship-Based Care (RBC) and Synergy professional practice model. As a member of the Nurse Executive Council (NEC), the ACNO will work closely with nursing leadership to strategically plan, align, and execute nursing’s contribution to the organization’s strategic mission. He/She oversees nursing education, transition to practice, evidence-based practice, nursing research, nursing quality, the Magnet program, and nursing informatics.

Position Summary

The ACNO serves as a leading resource for administration, nursing staff, interprofessional colleagues, collegiate partners, patients/families and the community in the promotion of nursing excellence, evidence-based practice and research, innovative care delivery systems, recognition, shared governance, professional development of nurses and a resilient, professional team-oriented environment. The ACNO provides guidance and expertise to encourage top of licensure practice grounded in the professional practice model. The ACNO will assist in developing strategic plans, annual goals, objectives, financial budgets and implementation plans, and is responsible for developing the Center for Professional Practice and Nursing Excellence across the OSU system.

Minimum Qualifications :

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate and curriculum vitae demonstrating a progressive contribution to nursing practice and leadership working in an academic medical center. Other desired qualities include a commitment to diversity, interprofessional education and collaboration with other disciplines, and the ability to mentor clinical nurses as well as students.

For Hire:

Earned doctorate with a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing. Current Ohio Registered Nurse license. Demonstrate expertise in nursing leadership and practice. Strong project management skills, minimum five years of clinical experience and ten years in a senior leadership role – preferably in an academic medical center and matrix reporting structures. Professional certification in Nursing Administration or clinical practice is desired with an expectation of attainment within 18 months of hire.

Ongoing:

Maintains current Ohio RN license. Meets mandatory education and health surveillance requirements. Demonstrates technical, interpersonal, and cognitive competence required to meet essential job functions.
