Manage all production-related tasks involved with producing the Merola Opera Training Program including, but not limited to overseeing production design and build process and recruiting, hiring, and supervising seasonal Opera Center production staff. Scope of the Merola Opera Training Program includes one public vocal/piano recital, one semi-staged operatic scenes program with orchestra with two performances (in July), one fully staged mainstage opera with full orchestra with two performances (in August), one semi-staged grand finale concert with full orchestra with supertitles (in August).ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Oversee design process for all Merola productions through pre-production building, rehearsal, and performance.Organize and lead all production meetings, creating detailed agendas for each meeting. Manage and track design deadlines and deliverables.Recruit, hire, onboard and supervise seasonal production personnel.Coordinate and schedule all Merola Opera Program production activities with SFO technical and production departments as needed.Coordinate technical aspects of rehearsal performance sites to ensure maximum SFOC artistic quality and control.Participate in evaluation and implementation of administrative systems to increase technical production productivity.Maintain record of budget items related to production and technical aspects of Merola programs. Make recommendations regarding production-related labor, maintenance, and other needs around accounting, budget planning, financial forecasting to ensure maximum efficiency.Coordinate all production-related aspects of Merola Opera Program performances including venue coordination, vendor relations, transportation, load ins and load outs.Work with SFOC Administration to determine personnel needs and room and stage set ups for all Merola events which include but are not limited to; rehearsals, Master Classes, Day at Merola, and Performances.Facilitate and coordinate all rental equipment and requirements to produce fully staged production which may include but are not limited to lighting instruments, props, and general equipment needs.Work with Design Teams and SFOC Administration to develop and implement technical schedules including scenery load in/strike, stage rehearsals, cueing, focusing, scenery/lighting notes.Work with venue facilities management, SFOC Administration, and SFO Music Operations ensure best possible working conditions for performers and staff in the various venues.Maintain and organize off site storage facility and equipment.SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:Assists as needed with other Opera Center programs and projects.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (preferred) or equivalent work experience.EXPERIENCE:Minimum two (2) years’ experience in production management work at a theatrical performing arts organization or festival, or five (5) years’ experience of theatrical stage management work.PRE-REQUISITE SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:General knowledge of the operatic art form, customs, and etiquette.Working knowledge of the cross-functionality in technical theater departments, practices, and procedures.Experience and familiarity with the theatre technical process and ability to plan, communicate, and update pertinent technical activities including, but not limited to, scenery construction, scenic/lighting load in and strike, lighting cueing and focusing, projection and scenery/lighting/painting notes.Demonstrated experience finding, hiring and supervising large production teams, including stage managers, carpenters and electricians, and other craftspeople.Experience working with union stagehands.Ability to maintain clear lines of written and verbal communication with SFOC, Merola full-time seasonal staff and contractors about current projects to move projects forward effectively and efficiently while remaining on time and on budget.Ability to assess the stage, scenery and rehearsal environments for safety and implement best practices for safety in all regards and maintaining a safe working environment for all Merola employees, contractors and participants.Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with artists, staff, patrons and audiences, vendors, venue personnel and volunteers in a professional and tactful manner.Familiarity of standard business principles/practices and financial processes.Familiarity with theatrical and musical union contracts.Ability to plan, organize and complete tasks with excellent attention to detail.Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; Outlook, Excel and Word.Ability to work independently, implement creative problem-solving, exercise good judgment and initiative.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple, shifting priorities successfully.
