POSITION SUMMARY:The Director of Career Services is responsible for managing all aspects of the Career Services, including student success, graduate outcome plans in relation to the target goals set, the development of strong relationships between employers, graduates, and university departments, marketing graduates to national, regional and local firms, and overseeing all Career Services programs and services offered to students, graduates, and alumni. Technical knowledge of the specific area of assignment may also be required.
KEY JOB ELEMENTS:
Meet annual goals for college in employment for graduates as designated by South University; comply with all South University and Career Services policies.
Markets the university’s Career Services program and its graduates for existing employer relationships and developing new employer relationships.
Work closely with the University Director of Career Services, Program Directors, Deans of Student Affairs, and Campus Presidents/Directors to ensure desirable outcomes are reached for graduates.
Planning, supervision, and assistance in delivering career programs and workshops (self-assessment, resume writing, interviewing, salary/benefits negotiation, job search strategies) designed to prepare students for the job market.
Provide individual career guidance for students and graduates seeking jobs.
Ensure data collection and entry are timely and accurate; maintain graduate files per South University policy.
Manage service operations to ensure key constituents (students, graduates, alumni, and employers) receive quality services and support.
Work with the Deans of Student Affairs to provide recruiting activities for remote campuses.
Oversee the Alumni Association with the Student Affairs Department.
Other duties as assigned along with the Dean of Student Affairs.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
Five or more years of solid management experience and/or career counseling experience in a corporate or academic setting.
Knowledge of the career decision-making and placement process.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with a range of populations
Persuasive sales techniques over the phone.
Interact effectively as a team member and work collaboratively across all departments.
ENVIRONMENT:The environment is dynamic and goal-oriented, requiring multi-tasking of responsibilities at all times. This position requires the ability to work effectively with a variety of personalities both within the school and with the public. A caring and self-directed nature is essential. Must possess a desire and ability to study, practice, and obtain additional knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis to remain well-versed in financial aid program offerings, policies, and procedures. The operating environment requires strict adherence to all regulatory requirements and internal policies. The position works extensively with admissions and enrollment team department personnel. Outside contacts include prospective students and applicants, their families and guests, and others such as government agencies, public school systems, and private businesses.The duties and characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
