About Us:The

Glendale City Court

is the Judicial Branch of the Glendale's City Government and is also part of the Arizona Judicial System. The Glendale City Court adjudicates criminal misdemeanors, City Code violations, and certain juvenile offenses committed in the City of Glendale. In cases of domestic violence and harassment, the Court issues protective orders. The Court has the authority to issue search warrants for misdemeanors and felonies. The Glendale City Court's mission is to provide an independent and accessible City Court, that maintains a high degree of public trust and confidence by addressing cases and providing prompt, fair, and just resolution, efficient, and courteous manner.The Role:The Court Hearing Officer conducts hearings and related proceedings regarding alleged civil violations for the City of Glendale.Salary:Compensation for the Court Hearing Officer shall be set by City Council for the term and will be based on education and applicable experience.Benefits:The City of Glendale offers a generous benefits package with competitive rates that become effective on the 1st of the month following 30 days of employment. for more information.Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave:The City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays throughout the calendar year.Vacation leave accrues at:

5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/17.25 days per year)Increases to 6.12 hours after 5 yearsThen caps out at 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.

Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/14.25 days per year).* Days per year estimates are based on an 8-hour work day.Retirement:This position participates in the

Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS)

. The current contribution rate is 12.27%. It is one of the best places to work, to grow your career, skills, and advance your future.Conducts hearings and related proceedings on civil citations including parking, civil traffic, certain code violations, contested traffic matters, Orders of Protection, Injunctions Against Harassment, and Injunctions Against Workplace Harassment.Serves as Judge Pro Tempore covering criminal calendar as needed.Listens to testimony, rules on motions and relevancy of evidence.Uses independent judgment and objectivity while hearing evidence, questioning witnesses, and determining responsibility.Analyzes data and evidence presented in court and renders equitable judgment by applying existing laws.Interprets City Code, State laws and Arizona Rules where applicable.Clearly communicates to defendants their rights and any imposed sentence.Enters legal decisions into the court file.Completes and signs various legal forms.Performs other related duties as assigned.Minimum Requirements:Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited Law School and two years experience in an Arizona municipal or traffic court.Knowledge of:Rules of Judicial ConductArizona Rules of Court, state statutes, City ordinances, and applicable case lawCourt procedures and operationsSkill in:Gathering and analyzing facts and evidenceArriving at objective conclusionsExperience in and familiarity with municipal or traffic court and two years of legal experience preferredAbility to:Sit in a courtroom setting for extended time periodsConduct legal researchBuild effective working relationships with court personnel and the general publicOperate a variety of standard office equipment, i.e., PC, copy and fax machines and telephone requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movementEffectively plan, organize, and manage court operationsWork independentlyCommunicate effectively verbally and in writingSpecial Requirements:Membership in the State Bar of Arizona.Completion of Civil Traffic Hearing Officer Course required within one year of employment.This position description does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and employee and is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the position change.Office setting
