Role: Data Governance Manager
Job Summary:As the Data Governance Manager, you play a central role in implementing and overseeing the enterprise Data Governance policies, standards, objectives, metrics, and processes. You collaborate closely with Business Operations and Data Services leaders to enhance the quality and value of enterprise data assets, ensuring they align with strategic objectives and operational needs. Additionally, you provide onboarding and training for new team members, Data Owners, and Data Stewards, positioning yourself as a key business partner across the organization.
Responsibilities
Play a key role in establishing an enterprise-wide Data Governance framework, ensuring alignment with business objectives. This includes overseeing, managing, and developing data management strategies, governance policies, procedures, and data quality processes.Act as a trusted advisor to data owners and leaders, providing expert insights on Data Governance and management.Serve as a liaison between teams, ensuring that data-related requirements for governing data are clearly defined, communicated, understood, and prioritized in operational planning.Lead the development and implementation of data quality and protection standards, fostering routines that enhance the entire enterprise.Drive decision-making across cross-functional teams, document outcomes meticulously, and ensure smooth execution through projects and business-as-usual (BAU) efforts.Collaborate with various teams to ensure consistent and compliant data collection, storage, and utilization.Develop and maintain an inventory of enterprise information maps, identifying authoritative systems and their owners.Measure and monitor data quality, lead root cause analysis (RCA) processes, and ensure remediation and continuous improvement.Monitor the effectiveness of Data Governance using quantitative and qualitative measures, providing recommendations for ongoing enhancement.Represent Data Governance across all organizational levels, from senior leadership to operational teams, offering best practices and guidance to data stewards and other stakeholders.
Education
Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS, or a related field.Demonstrated experience in data governance, data management, or similar roles.Knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA, DCAM) and methodologies.Solid understanding of data privacy regulations and compliance requirements.Proficiency with data analysis tools and platforms such as SQL, Excel, and Tableau.
Work Experience
Over 5 years of experience in data roles within business intelligence or analysis-focused environments.At least 3 years of hands-on experience in implementing and managing impactful data governance programs, including areas like data standardization, data modeling, data dictionaries, data inventorying, metadata standards, data warehousing, analytics, data mining, integration, and engineering.Proven experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and engaging with stakeholders at all levels within an organization.Skilled in advising on data-driven and evidence-based decision-making, from developing analytics products to utilizing advanced analytics and emerging technologies.Proficient in SQL and Python, with the ability to analyze large datasets and lead governance processes and documentation.Adept at simplifying complex business problems into understandable components for various levels within the organization.Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to business users.A collaborative team player with a strong work ethic, dedicated to meeting deadlines and objectives.Capable of working independently with strong critical thinking skills.Experience with tools like Atlan, Collibra, or similar platforms is preferred.
