Position Summary:

The P2Project (The Pregnancy Prevention Project) at Children’s Aid aims to reduce and prevent the incidence of unintended adolescent pregnancy in its priority areas in NYC by providing young people with the holistic tools to meet their greatest potentials through evidence-based sexuality education, comprehensive reproductive health services, and peer health education. The main objectives of the program are:

Provide comprehensive, age appropriate, sexuality health education for adolescents (11 – 22).

Provide strategies for young people to make healthy decisions and set goals for the future.

Connect youth to reproductive health services.

Encourage youth/adult partnerships and effective communication.

Create and foster community and organizational partnerships to reduce the incidence of unintended adolescent pregnancy in our communities.

Under the supervision of the Program Manager and OPA Program Coordinator, the OPA Program Health Educator works to meet the objectives described above by providing outreach and sexual health education and outreach to children, adolescents, and adults in Manhattan and the Bronx.

Essential Duties: ********

Understand and promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.

Conducts evidence-based health education sessions/groups to youth and parents at CA, DOE, and other CBO program sites.

Develops and implements workshops for community outreach purposes, as directed.

Provides individual counseling services (sexual decision-making, growth and development, pregnancy prevention, STI’s and HIV pre and post-test counseling) to youth in CA program sites (community schools and youth centers), and other school and community-based settings.

Assists the Program Coordinator and Senior Health Educator in the oversight of the Just Ask Me (JAM) Peer Health Educators and activities required to support this program.

Participates in the process of developing, obtaining, evaluating and maintaining written and audio-visual health education materials as required by program.

Documents all group/workshops and individual counseling services, as requested by the Program Coordinator.

Offers and arranges for family planning services at CA Health Centers for youth at program sites. Provides transportation as needed.

Participates as part of a team with other staff to provide quality patient care.

Attends training sessions conducted by other agencies in order to develop skills and knowledge required of an educator in a CA program.

Contributes to program planning and evaluation by maintaining up-to-date records and filling out required statistical forms.

Comply with all privacy laws including HIPAA, etc.

Perform other duties as assigned

** Minimum Qualifications:******

Bachelor's Degree in Community Health Education, Public Health, or related discipline or at least two years’ experience in sexual health education required

Key Competencies: ****

Strong interpersonal skills.

Experience working with adolescents a plus

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
