Position: College and Career Counselor

Reports to: Culture and Student Success Coordinator

Category: Full-time 12 month employee; exempt overtime

Job Description: The college and career counselor supports students in the exploration of their talents and interests. The College and Career Counselor reports to the Culture and Student Success Coordinator. A comprehensive educational, college, and financial aid planning program is necessary to provide members of the GGA community with the support needed to move on to post-secondary opportunities. This supporting professional develops and oversees outreach to colleges and universities and develops a college and career culture at GGA by designing and facilitating specialized programs that support the social and emotional well being of students.

Duties and responsibilities include:

Proactively creates and develops positive relationships with all members of the school community (students, teachers, families).

Establishes positive working relationships with colleges and universities

Advises and supports students in their Pathways choice

Provides guidance for students college and career portfolios

Submits required paperwork for college entrance application

Coordinates college entrance exam testing.

lans and prepares schedules for SAT, ACT, Accuplacer, and other career admission exams in coordination with testing coordinator(s).

Informs students and parents/guardians about financial aid, scholarships, and summer programs

Works with wraparound service coordinator, experiential learning coordinator, and admissions coordinator

Monitors students' graduation status, credits, service learning hours and grades

Provides one-to-one and small-group counseling services to students

Conducts family conferences, parent meetings and sets up school notifications for College and Career opportunities at the school

Manages the usage of Naviance, college board, 2VOLX and other CCR related databases

Develops and implements 4 year GGA college and career readiness curriculum

Leads and facilitates Wednesday CCR workshops for 9-11th grade students

Develops strategies for engaging parents in the post-secondary process

Sets up college visits and tours, college admissions repvisits, etc.

Plans career and college fairs

Collaborate and corresponds with the IB CP Core Coordinators and teachers

Develops and implements the college and career readiness plan

Develops, supports, and manages the student mentorship program in collaboration with

Creates and monitors secondary transition plans for non IEP students (with the Transition Coordinator)

Manage and support GGA’s dual enrollment partnership through student support, connections with the college and other support as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Commits to assisting the school becoming Tier 1

Communicates clearly in both oral and written forms

Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Master’s degree or higher in Counseling or related field

2+ years experience in career services or student advising

Experience working in high school preferred

Detailed understanding of current college/ career placement programs

Experience in developing/ organizing workshops/ job fairs

Knowledge of college entrance requirements
