Role: Platform EngineerLocation: Atlanta, GA - Hybrid

Job PurposeThe Platform Engineer is responsible for ensuring high availability and performance across mixed UNIX and Windows environments, including development, non-production, and production systems. As part of a results-driven, service-oriented team, the Platform Engineer collaborates with configuration analysts, release engineers, developers, and operations teams. Key duties include conducting root cause analysis of issues, selecting and implementing automation tools, and engaging in detailed technical discussions.

Responsibilities

Assist in the design, planning, and deployment of server infrastructure solutions.Optimize and fine-tune system performance for maximum efficiency.Automate manual tasks through scripting and application development.Research, evaluate, and integrate new tools and technologies as necessary.Provide 24/7 support for production operations and resolve issues promptly.Test, evaluate, and implement new OS versions, drivers, and patches.Conduct technical analysis, troubleshoot issues, and recommend solutions.Collaborate with developers, operations teams, release engineers, and end-users.Mentor and train team members and operations staff on technical practices.Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours technical support.

Knowledge and Experience

3+ years of experience with Linux operating systems, particularly RedHat variants.2+ years of experience with Windows operating systems.2+ years of experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Swarm, or Pivotal.Proficient in coding and automating tasks using Python, GoLang, or similar scripting languages.Strong experience with API-driven automation.Deep understanding of core DevOps principles, processes, and tools.Expertise in infrastructure automation tools like Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or Foreman.Hands-on experience with deployment automation tools (Jenkins, VSTS, Octopus Deploy, etc.).Proficiency with source control tools such as Git, Bitbucket, SVN, or VSTS.Solid understanding of multi-tiered, highly available, and resilient application design.Knowledge of scaling techniques for both performance and high availability.Intermediate skills in Linux system administration and engineering.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Ability to work effectively within a service-oriented team.Experience in project management, organization, and time management.Extensive experience with both physical and virtual infrastructure deployment and support.Customer-focused and committed to delivering a high-quality user experience.Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of thriving in a high-demand environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience in Systems Engineering.Familiarity with platforms such as Kafka, Cloudera, Hadoop, or similar technologies.Strong working knowledge of networking infrastructure, including BigIP, routing, NATing, and firewalls.Solid understanding of enterprise-level storage and backup solutions.Proven track record of automating and enhancing infrastructure build and support processes.
