The Office of the Queens County District Attorney is seeking applicants for a Social Worker for the Frauds Bureau, Elder Fraud Unit, to provide specialized direct services to crime victims ages 60 and older.

The Elder Fraud Unit Social Worker will provide victims of financial crimes with support services including supportive counseling and advocacy throughout the pendency of the criminal case or investigation, referrals to appropriate community services when needed and assistance completing Office of Victim Services (OVS) victim compensation claim applications.

The Elder Fraud Unit Social Worker will be a part of the Frauds Bureau and will report through the Elder Fraud Unit to perform the following job functions, including but not limited to:

Providing supportive services to older adult crime victims through face-to-face visits, telephone or e-mail.

Work with the staff of the Elder Fraud Unit and Frauds Bureau to assist elderly victims of financial crimes.

Assisting crime victims with completing OVS victim compensation claim applications and following up on the status of pending claims.

Serving as a liaison between older adult victims and the NYPD, the court system and other Queens County District Attorney Office bureaus and programs.

Advocating for the needs and rights of older adult victims with a variety of community-based organizations and government agencies and collaborating on joint service provision. Examples may include neighborhood senior centers, case management agencies, Meals on Wheels programs, Department for the Aging (DFTA), Adult Protective Services (APS), health and mental health organizations, New York City Housing Authority and Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE), and the Queens Enhanced Multidisciplinary Team (EMDT) of the New York City Elder Abuse Center.

Providing information to older adult crime victims on relevant programs and services and making referrals.

Documenting all services provided to crime victims.

Representing the Queens County District Attorney’s Office in workshops and conferences on elder financial exploitation prevention and intervention.

Qualification Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and two years of full-time experience in community work or community centered activities. Candidates must have knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software, excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others.

Strong preference will be given to candidates with LMSW licensure or the equivalent, a valid NY State driver license and vehicle, and at least one year of social work experience. Prior experience working with older adult crime victims or the criminal justice system, as well as bilingual ability in Spanish or South or East Asian language is also highly desirable.
