Application Engineer - Control Systems

As an Application Engineer, you will support the development and execution of control systems for power generation and propulsion control systems driven by prime movers, including steam, gas, hydro turbines, and diesel/gas engines. This role involves taking projects from conception through design and testing to onsite commissioning, including all necessary documentation. A strong focus will be on retrofitting and converting control systems to Woodward programmable controls, as well as working with auxiliary control systems like PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, AVRs, protective relays, and power management controls.Compensation:
Salary Range: $85,000 - $125,000 annually, based on skills and experience.Eligible for an annual bonus (STI) of up to 10% of the annual salary.Bonus compensation for qualified commissioning jobs.Travel Expectations: Up to 30%, including overnight stays and weekends.Primary (Essential) Duties:Support sales by determining customer requirements and developing a statement of work.Estimate project costs for materials and engineering resources, and develop quotes.Project engineering, including BOM, electrical and mechanical design, development of drawings, manuals, and other documentation.Provide in-house technical support for sales and service teams, as well as direct customer support.Conduct site support, commissioning, and service globally.Ensure safety in application design and on-site working environments.Engage in field service and commissioning globally.Perform project engineering tasks, including GAP, PLC, HMI, wiring diagrams, function block diagrams, and mechanical layout.Support TAG, software tools, and database development.Develop specs, quotes, and proposals.Manage and deliver all tasks associated with project design and documentation.Foster customer relationship development.Work in GCS Web Apps, TRAX (Business Operating System), and Sales Logix (Customer Relationship Manager).Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks.Demonstrated self-starter with strong interpersonal skills.Experience with automation control systems and instrumentation.Experience with gas engines required.Knowledge of prime mover control systems, power management equipment, and marine propulsion equipment.Familiarity with PLC, HMI, SCADA programming.Proficiency in application programs such as GAP, Ladder, Function Block, Script, Matlab, Simulink.Strong knowledge of HMI and SCADA system tools and applications.Working knowledge of Microsoft applications.Attention to detail and a high degree of product and application knowledge.Strong customer interaction and communication skills.Fluent in English; technical/commercial Spanish is a plus for the Mandeville, LA location.Ability to visualize, plan, manage, and engineer complex application projects.Ability to interpret complex technical specifications and manage time and resources effectively.Competence in performing commissioning and service tasks.Ability to interpret and communicate application and system problems.Ability to provide clear instructions and problem-solving to customers and offer product and application training.Self-motivated and responsible team player with a customer-focused mindset.Education and Experience Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, plus 3 years of relevant work experience, or 10 years of relevant work experience in power generation, industrial automation, or a related industry.Valid US Driver's License.Valid Passport.Benefits Include:Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance15 Days PTO10 Paid HolidaysLife Insurance, AD&DShort/Long-Term Disability401K with Company MatchEqual opportunity employer
