OverviewIn the role of a Database Engineer, you will work with a broad range of customers on enterprise database design and implementation strategies while applying Esri technology best practices. You will consult with customers to understand business and technical requirements, design enterprise data management strategies, and implement those strategies throughout the engagement life cycle. You will work both independently and as part of project teams to configure back-end geospatial database management capabilities that support customer workflows utilizing ArcGIS web, desktop, and mobile applications.This team supports our Federal and Capitol region customers. You will be part of a talented cross-functional team that delivers capabilities that enable our customers to make a difference in communities around the world.The Professional Services division is the consulting and implementation arm of Esri. We break ground in new markets, push the technology envelope and ultimately deliver transformational solutions to high profile clients worldwide. The Professional Services organization is comprised of nearly 1,000 talented business and technical professionals who strive every day to help our user be successful.ResponsibilitiesWork closely with customers and partners to identify, design, and validate key GIS workflowsDevelop enterprise database design and implementation strategiesDesign logical and physical geodatabase models to support requirements following Esri and industry best practicesConfigure enterprise geodatabase maintenance and tuning strategiesPresent complex GIS technical demonstrations to various levels of staff in a diverse range of customer organizationsCollaborate with software development teams to help improve Esri capabilities and customer experienceUse consulting skills to support teams during all phases of implementation including requirements, analysis, design, build/configuration, and deployment
Requirements5+ years of professional experience in database architecture and administration for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or SAP HanaFamiliarity with database design, data loading techniques, physical storage, backup/recovery strategies and data retention solutions, data security, and enterprise database maintenance and tuningFamiliarity with geoprocessing tools, tasks, and ModelBuilderProgramming and scripting experience with Python and SQLExposure to performance assessment and tuning techniquesExposure to geospatial and mapping concepts such as spatial types, spatial analysis, map projections, and moreAbility to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to technical peers and non-technical project managers or customersUS citizenship and willingness and ability to obtain a public trust background investigation or security clearanceBachelor`s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or related STEM field
Recommended Qualifications2+ years of professional experience administrating and/or customizing GIS-related technology in a professional setting involving Python and SQLKnowledge of GIS integration with other enterprise systemsOne or more industry-standard IT certifications (such as Esri, CompTIA, Microsoft, Amazon, PostgreSQL, Oracle)Master`s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or related STEM field
