Position Title: Certified Occupational Therapist

Supervisor: Principal

Term of Employment: 11 months

*Job Summary:* Deliver Occupational Therapy services in the educational setting on behalf of students who are limited by physical impairments or illness, psychosocial dysfunction, developmental or learning difficulties, socioeconomic and cultural differences in order to achieve optimum functional performance, maximize independence, prevent disability, and maintain health; to include evaluation, treatment, environmental modification, consultation, training and program monitoring.

_Essential Duties and Responsibilities_ generally include the following. Other duties may be assigned:* OT will work with Kindergarten-12th grade students.* Supervise all COTA(s).* OT will join a team where the vision is to push into the classroom and community while delivering services in their natural environment when appropriate.* Collaborates with classroom teachers to schedule interventions using a variety of service delivery models such as classroom intervention, consultation/collaboration, and pull-out as appropriate to meet students needs in the least restrictive environment.* Provides activities commensurate with students’ interests and aptitudes.* Uses a variety of equipment, materials, devices, and aids.* Uses systematic and evidence based intervention strategies to foster communication competence.* Implements the service of delivery model most appropriate to the students’ degree of severity.* Provides feedback and reinforcement to students.* Uses language appropriate to the listener.* Skill and experience working with students who use augmentative and adaptive communication strategies and devices.* Writing Individual education Plans (IEP), including working knowledge of functional perceptual motor, sensorimotor, and/or self/care skills.* Ability to participate as an effective member of the IEP team.* Conducts meetings, such as OT team meetings, faculty meetings, special education meetings, and parent teacher conferences.* Maintain records of OT programs and prepare periodic reports as required.* Keeps updated data for program planning and decision making for students.* Submit timely reports.* Presents information to school personnel regarding OT services.* Provides information to parents and teachers about OT development.* Keeps updated therapy data and lists dates and times the students received therapy.* Applies knowledge gained from continuing education activities.* Explores and disseminates information about new and/or improved methods for serving students.* Gives written information to teachers, parents and others on ways to foster OT growth.* Coach classroom staff on implementation of OT therapy goals.* Talks with teachers formally and informally about individual student’s needs and progress.

*Knowledge and Skills:** Knowledge of disabling conditions that occur before and after birth and their effects on students with special needs related to educational performance.* Knowledge of the educational system and its critical components including federal and state regulations and ethical/legal responsibilities applying to occupational therapists in the educational setting.* Knowledge of major theories, treatment procedures and research relevant to providing occupational therapy services for children (3-22) with disabilities.* Ability to assess the functional performance of students with disabilities within the school environment. This would include identifying, comparing, selecting, and administering appropriate evaluations.* Ability to interpret assessment results appropriately and use the results to develop therapeutic intervention plans and classroom strategies appropriate to the educational setting. This could include adaptive equipment, assistive technology devices, and outside professional consultation.* Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with educational personnel, parents, local and state agencies, and the community at large.* Ability to engage in consensus decision-making as part of the IEP process in order to develop appropriate IEP goals and objectives.* Ability to plan and implement intervention strategies using a continuum of service delivery approaches in accordance with student needs in the least restrictive environment.* Ability to evaluate, modify, and document the effectiveness of occupational therapy intervention as it relates to the student’s education program.* Evidence of continuing educational efforts to enhance skills, expertise, and professional knowledge as it relates to job performance. This could include such areas as adaptive equipment and assistive technology, training and supervision of other staff, administration, time management, and evidence based interventions.* Knowledge of VAA policies and procedures.* Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public, and others having business with the school district.* Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

_*Minimum Qualifications*_: Must have graduated from an accredited university with a degree in Occupational Therapy and hold a current license from the Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners.

_*Other Requirements*_:* Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background clearance check.* Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arizona driver’s license.* May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.* May be required to lift students weighing up to 60 pounds.* May be required to work outside normal working hours.* May be required to travel to perform work functions.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
