Action Lab is seeking a highly motivated, processes-oriented

Database Analyst , a data engineer tosupport Dreamscape Learn projects. Dreamscape Learn is a collaboration between Arizona StateUniversity and Dreamscape Immersive, leveraging cinematic storytelling and VR technology to reenvisionhow courses can be taught.

Action Lab combines the power of data and research to evaluate and inform business decisions to createinnovative solutions. Under the general guidance of a Data Architect, the Data Engineer will support andextend projects in Action Lab's Dreamscape Learn portfolio by automating processes, generatingcomplex datasets, and maintaining rigorous data standards.

This is a hybrid role. The incumbent of this position will be required to work from our office located inScottsdale, Arizona three days per week (ideally in office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and one other daythat aligns with other work activities).

Essential Duties:Makes recommendations for enhancements to current procedures, including assessments of the algorithmic complexity, efficiency, and potential alternativesTranslate business, research needs, and questions into reliable automated workstreamsPeriodically review configuration for enhancement opportunities; reviews current needs and provides ongoing support of data requirements through understanding of available data and active systemsQuery, transform and clean complex data; join data accurately across multiple data streamsWork iteratively to create and maintain testing processes throughout developmentReviews, modifies, and rewrites existing code to optimize it or adapt it to fit new requirementsTroubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes and resolves technical issues to ensure ongoing data integrityWork with stakeholders to identify data gaps and issues, then implement solutionsWork alongside other EdPlus teams on the maintenance, testing, and implementation of data systemsWorks primarily within the scope of well-defined workstreams with high level guidance from senior staffInterpret and understand business requirements from researchers and instructional designersAssume or coordinate other duties or projects as assigned or directedRelated analytical processes and reviewsMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or closely related field and 2 years database modeling, creating and editing stored procedures including needs assessment of enterprise-wide database needs OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.Desired Qualifications:Evidence of an advanced degree in Computer Science, IT, or related fieldExperience working in a higher education setting, preferably with higher education student dataAbility to read, write, and debug code in Python, Javascript, or equivalent programming languagesExperience in designing, developing, and maintaining ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) workflowsAdvanced SQL skills including CTEs, window functions, and complex joinsAbility to develop and implement solutions in a Cloud environment like Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft AzureProficiency with an ETL tool such as AlteryxProficient with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook as well as the corresponding Google Suite tools including docs, sheets, and slidesAbility to work effectively in an environment requiring balancing multiple competing deadlines and prioritiesSkill in maintaining and managing small to medium-sized projectsExperience with Jira or related project management toolsSkill in thinking critically and developing creative solutions to challenging problemsAbility to work both independently and in collaboration with a variety of individualsAbility to lead by example in communication, participation, and encouragementASU offers a total compensation package that includes valuable employee benefits. Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
