Cost Accountant – Drug Manufacturing Company
Location: Long Island, NY
Job Summary:
The Cost Accountant will be responsible for managing and analyzing inventory, operating expenses, product costing, and financial reporting for a leading drug manufacturing company. This role involves ensuring accurate financial data for inventory, operating expenses, and product costing, as well as supporting monthly and annual audits and SAP processes. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing or plant-based environment and demonstrate proficiency in SAP and GAAP principles.
SALARY: $90-$110K
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Analysis & Accounting
- Conduct inventory roll forward, reconciliation, and valuation using Excel.
- Analyze and book accruals for slow-moving, non-moving, near-expiry, rejects, and NRV inventory.
- Perform inventory aging analysis, monitoring, and control.
- Conduct periodic physical inventory counts and verification.
- Prepare and analyze inventory schedules such as provision movement, destruction, and work-in-progress (WIP).
- Review and enhance controls around inventory and product costing to eliminate control gaps.
- Evaluate purchase requisitions (PR) and purchase orders (PO) for raw materials and packaging to ensure stock availability.
- Track procurement and consumption of excipients, stores, and spares.
- Coordinate with the warehouse team to ensure timely goods receipt and follow up on delays.
Operating Expense (Opex) Evaluation
- Evaluate operating expenses during PO or invoice booking.
- Analyze new operating expense proposals/agreements and assess pros and cons.
- Verify services taken by users before approving service invoices.
Product Costing
- Maintain and update the product costing sheet for all products with live cost data.
- Regularly review and update costing information, including recipes and cycle times, to ensure accurate product costs.
- Gather and prepare costing information for new products or SKUs.
- Compute key activity rates for overhead costing and inventory valuation per policy.
- Perform periodic reviews and revaluations of key activity rates and execute quarterly costing runs in SAP.
Monthly Performance Analysis, MIS, Audit, and SAP Support
- Act as the SAP single point of contact (SPOC) for Finance, overseeing SAP developments and executions.
- Support financial audits and serve as the point of contact for inventory, fixed assets, sales, and accounts receivable (AR).
- Prepare monthly plant performance reports, including production, key performance indicators (KPIs), and financial metrics.
- Assist in the monthly and year-end financial close processes, including financial statement finalization.
- Prepare and analyze reports and schedules for audits and internal analysis.
- Assist in the preparation and compilation of the annual budget.
Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of customer payments with open invoices.
- Follow up on overdue invoices to ensure prompt payment.
- Prepare AR aging and sales schedules, ensuring timely profit share booking.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or plant-based environment.
- Master’s degree in Finance, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and proficiency in SAP ERP.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to interact effectively with division managers and senior corporate personnel.
