JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Algorithms, Prototyping, and Integration Department (API) of the Visualization and Decision Support Division in the Communications, Information, and Navigation Office (CINO) within the Applied Research Lab (ARL) at Penn State University (PSU) is looking for talented, experienced and highly motivated front end software developer to assist ARL in providing its customers with state of the art visualization and decision support. As a team member, you will collaborate with our data analytics and software teams to design and improve custom developed geo-spatially focused situational awareness displays as well as other user interface displays. Located in Reston, VA or University Park, PA ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. Responsibilities include: Development, testing, and transitioning of Java and JavaScript based software applications to operationally critical environments Development of front-end web services including all aspects of server, client, and web components Development of unique algorithmic and implementation solutions to a wide array of sponsor requirements Working within an agile development environment with other developers, scrum master and product owners with scoping, developing and delivering quality software solutions This job will be filled at the professional or intermediate professional level, depending upon the successful candidate's education, and experience. Minimally requires a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Science related discipline for the professional level. Additional experience and/or education are required for higher level jobs. Additional duties of intermediate professional level will include: Supervise the work of lower level staff and undergraduate students Required skills and experience: Intermediate understanding and experience in client-side scripting and JavaScript libraries and frameworks such as React, NodeJS, webpack, and Redux Understanding and experience in web markup languages including HTML, CSS, and SCSS Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills Excellent oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on being a team player Preferred skills and experience: Understanding and experience in spatiotemporal web frameworks such as Google Maps, OpenLayers, or Cesium Experience with or knowledge of Agile Software Development methodologies Active TS/SCI Clearance ARL at Penn State is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a University center of excellence in defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas.
