The Role:

The Director of Communication strengthens and expands awareness of One Family Illinois through internal and external communications, marketing, and events. Responsibilities will include developing effective messaging and communication strategies, managing external communication channels, monitoring, and managing brand standards.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

Communications Management

Builds, plans, and implements the overall communications strategy for the organization with the direction and approval of the Chief Advancement Officer.

Manage/supervise communications content specialist, and other team members as needed.

Create or oversee production of all communication materials for One Family Illinois for both social and traditional media. Types of projects include but are not limited to:

- Website content

- Fundraising and marketing materials

- One Family internal newsletter

- Social media updates

- Press releases/ press kit

- Annual report

Track online metrics to gauge communication effectiveness including email open rates, website, and social analytics.

Create style guides and brand voice for all public relations, marketing, advertising, and advancement.

Promotes and represents One Family Illinois in its relationships with other individuals, community agencies, organizations, and the media wherever assigned in a dignified, ethical, and impeccable manner.

Prepares all relevant marketing and media data for internal and external reporting, including EMT reports, Board of Director reports, Communications Committee Reports, etc.

Complies with all One Family Illinois policies, state, federal, county and city laws, rules, and regulations.

Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or relevant field.

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.

Excellent written, digital, and verbal communication skills.

Analytical skills to solve problems and find the best way to convey messages.

Proven experience creating targeted content.

Strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques.

Media relations and crisis communication experience preferred.

Organizational skills, and the ability to multitask, prioritize projects and work well under pressure.

Reliable, punctual, with ability to work as part of a team, as well as in a leadership role.

Technological ability to work on a variety of digital platforms, preferred, and to create web and mobile content.

Ability and willingness to travel to Lockport, Chicago, Roosevelt Square Villages and Casa Tepeyac, as well as metro area meetings as position requires. Must have a valid driver’s license with reliable access to a vehicle.

Ability to relate to the Agency staff and to the public in a courteous and professional manner.

Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.

Ability to be flexible and work effectively and efficiently.

Ability to provide required DCFS Medical Report/TB test.

Ability to meet DCFS requirements as they relate to employment in a Child Welfare Agency, including a criminal background check and Drug Screen.

Ability to manage sensitive and confidential materials.

Sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and staff.

Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed.

Ability to work in an alcohol, tobacco, drug, and firearm-free environment.
