Assists the Director of Media & Community Relations in the implementation of all aspects of media relations for the purpose of increasing editorial exposure of the City of Hampton.• Promotes Hampton special events and leisure opportunities on an ongoing basis.• Collects, coordinates, duplicates, and distributes Hampton images to publications and stakeholders as necessary.• Writes and distributes articles and press releases to local and travel media.• Participates in the writing and editing of the Hampton Visitor Guide and the Hampton CVB/Retail quarterly newsletter. Edits and submits directory listings. Edits and updates Hampton calendar of events, both for Hampton Convention & Visitor Bureau and those of CVB partners and media publications.• Researches and generates articles and event calendars for electronic and print publications. Conducts research as necessary to complete tasks.• Provides all media with Hampton information to satisfy interests and deadline requirements. Increases exposure of Hampton through coordination and hosting of writer/press tours.• Performs other related duties as required.Minimum Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with concentration in English or Journalism.Considerable hospitality experience in a convention and visitor bureau, hotel, attraction or public relations agency.Knowledge of Associated Press journalism standards with proven track record of media placement.Extensive client base preferred. Knowledge of film and digital photography is helpful.Must be able to communicate and write clearly, concisely, and creatively.Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Power Point.Must maintain a good working knowledge of Hampton visitor product, including hotel additions and improvements, leisure activities, programs offered by attractions, convention center developments, visiting convention delegations and high-interest organizations, and other Hampton development and growth affecting Hampton tourism.Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; ability to foster effective public relations and develop and maintain harmonious working relationships with diverse populations.Must possess a valid motor vehicle license issued by the State of Virginia and must possess a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.Any acceptable combination of experience and education may be considered for the more specific requirements outlined above.Additional Information:

This position requires the ability to think and act independently under the supervision of the Director of Media & Community Relations, while maintaining effective and positive working relationships with other Hampton Convention & Visitor Bureau staff, Hampton hospitality stakeholders, government officials, and the general public.Requires strong written and verbal communication skills. Requires some evening and weekend work.Requires local travel and use of personal vehicle.This is an exempt position.
