UIC has over 300,000 alumni and is one of the largest employers in the city of Chicago.DescriptionUIC is excited to recruit a new Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Strategic Partnerships (VCISP). Leading our Innovation Center, Extended Campus, and Strategic Partnerships (comprised of corporate relations, government relations, and community relations) portfolios, the VCISP will be responsible for the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies for UIC that integrates innovation/entrepreneurship initiatives and strategic external partnerships to help foster a forward-looking culture. The VCISP is a member of the University’s leadership team and will work collaboratively with Vice Chancellors and Deans across UIC, participating fully in the Chancellor’s Cabinet and providing leadership and oversight for innovation and corporate, government, and community collaboration broadly across the university.UIC is seeking a proven leader with demonstrated success in innovation and entrepreneurship management experience within a large, complex environment with an emphasis on the development of strategies and policies for successful transfer of ideas and commercialization. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the culture of academic institutions and an appreciation of the role of research and service-intensive faculty in innovation, and a demonstrated ability to promote and facilitate interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary research.QualificationsA master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution of higher education and a minimum of ten (10) years of demonstrated success in innovation and entrepreneurship management experience within a large, complex environment with an emphasis on the development of strategies and policies for successful transfer of ideas and commercialization;Proven leader with evident entrepreneurial skills and experience cultivating and navigating complex government, community, and corporate relationships;Strong understanding of the culture of academic institutions and an appreciation of the role of research and service-intensive faculty in innovation;Demonstrated commitment to resource stewardship and strong demonstrated capabilities in planning, budgeting, financing, and fiscal management;Demonstrated ability to promote and facilitate interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary research and innovative activity;Demonstrated success in recruiting, developing, evaluating and retaining academic talent;Ability to foster and promote gender equity and ethnic diversity among faculty and staff to enrich the university and advance its mission of access and excellence at scale;Proven ability to interact professionally and communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external constituent groups including faculty, staff, students, community, corporate and governmental (city, county, state, federal) entities;Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships, including the ability to negotiate and solve problems with multiple constituencies and stakeholder groups with diverse priorities;Ability to articulate and bring into effect the overall mission and vision of the university;A creative thinker and innovator with the ability to build consensus and collaborate with others;Commitment to making higher education more inclusive.Preferred QualificationsA doctoral degree or relevant terminal degree in a related field from an accredited institution of higher education is strongly preferred;Experience within a large public research university, preferably with an academic health system;Demonstrated experience leading change across a unit, department, or institution;Experience applying best practices in instructional design for online or hybrid education;Sufficient research experience to provide insight into how faculty develop and advance their best ideas.Location and SalaryThis position will be based in Chicago, IL. The salary will be commensurate with experience.Working ConditionsGeneral office environment. Regular travel is not expected but may occur occasionally around previously scheduled events.
