Summary: Responsible for all aspects of credit underwriting department. Administers the company's loan policies and practices. Recommends loan policies and credit risk review policies and procedures. Identifies credit risk situations and provides guidance to line-of-business lending managers. Recommends to Risk Oversight/credit risk manager concentration and credit related reports for Loan Committee and Board of Directors. Manages the credit underwriting analysis function of the commercial lending department. Coordinates with the finance department by identifying and selecting all necessary loans and documentation in order to provide necessary collateral to be pledged to the FHLB.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Resolves credit policy issues identified internally or by regulators by coordinating due diligence efforts with line-of-business managers.
  • Heads the bank's Internal Credit Policy Committee and coordinates the development and revision of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Oversees the review and interpretation of new and pending laws and regulations that potentially affect the organization's credit practices.
  • Supervises all aspects of staff activity including annual reviews and time off to ensure adherence to professional standards and smooth running of the department.
  • Manages the Commercial Lending underwriting Department area, assuring that credit underwriting analyses provide a clear rationale for the advancement of credit decisions. Reviews all credit underwriting going to Loan Committee. Insures that all staff are properly trained.
  • Collaborates with Risk Oversight manager and the Senior Lender by informing them of any material considerations affecting the loan portfolio, loan policy and unusual individual loan transactions of significant size.
  • Prepares portfolio reports and periodically provides findings to the Loan Committee.
  • Serves as a resource for credit policy and procedure interpretation to all lending functions.
  • Completes all yearly compliance training and testing and complies with bank, federal, and state regulations. Complies with Bank Policies and Procedures. Adheres to departmental and bank-wide service standard


Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience: Generally, requires a Master of Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience, plus five to eight years of relevant experience.

Skills needed:
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • At least 5 years of demonstratable leadership in credit management.
  • Must understand and comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills, time management and attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to manage a mid-sized team and delegate responsibility to achieve departmental goals.
  • Ability to work independently and determine appropriate prioritization aligned with organization goals.
  • Sound judgment & analytical skills with self-maintained focus.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with ability to interact using tact and diplomacy.

Computer Skills: Knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel.
