THE POSITION:

Under the direction of the Trauma Program Manager (TPM), the Trauma Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinator supports the needs and operations of the Trauma Program. The PI Coordinator is responsible for oversight and coordination of quality and performance needs of the Trauma Service. The PI Coordinator works closely with the Trauma Registrars for collection and abstraction of trauma patient data to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations of the Trauma Registry.

EDUCATION/BILINGUAL INCENTIVE:

Incumbents may be eligible for an educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on completion of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not required for the classification. Incumbents may also be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill.

Senior Registered Nurse - Hospital is represented by the California Nurse's Association (CNA) and is eligible for overtime compensation.

NOTE:

Salary placement will be determined according to the current CNA memorandum of agreement.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:Conducts concurrent Level I review of patients within the program throughout their hospital stay while reviewing the plan of care for compliance with standards and clinical practice guidelines.Identifies variations or gaps in care and communicates deficiencies to involved care providers to ensure compliance with standards.Reviews medical records and other source documents to collect clinical data of patients in the Trauma Program according to the specifications and guidelines of the applicable data element.Keeps TPM informed of patient status and reports any unusual or trending variances to support active and timely performance improvement.Assists the TPM with concurrent review and the coordination of patient care within the program as necessary.Uses trauma registry, hospital event reporting systems, multi-disciplinary rounds, and other relevant data to identify opportunities for improvement.Reviews trauma audit filters, outcomes and benchmark reports to ensure adequate documentation is performed as required by the Ventura County Emergency Medical Services (VCEMS) and the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS/COT).Coordinates trauma PI projects.Establishes practice management guidelines.Prepares report presentations for Level 2 review-Intake rounds.Assists the Trauma Registrars with complex chart reviews to ensure accurate capture of diagnosis and procedures.Collaborates with the TPM and Trauma Medical Director in the review and analysis of benchmark reports.Collaborates with the TPM to assure the Trauma Performance Improvement Patient Safety (PIPS) program is driven by Trauma Registry data based on National Trauma Data Standards and Ventura County Emergency Medical Services (VCEMS) data requirements.Identifies quality improvement issues in the clinical setting.Coordinates trauma care management within the multidisciplinary team.Works with all clinical educators and Nursing Education division on continuing education for trauma staff across the continuum to ensure proficiency and competence.Performs other related duties as required.EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:Requires three (3) years professional registered nursing experience in inpatient care, with a background in trauma care.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Must possess and maintain a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California.Must have a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by the first day of employment.DESIRED:Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) with an emphasis on emergency and/or critical care.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Working knowledge of:The principles, practices, and techniques used in advanced trauma nursing care.Microsoft Office professional suite (with programs such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).Skilled in:OrganizationInterpersonal communicationLeadershipAnalysis and problem-solvingUsing computers for data entry purposes.Working ability to:Critically think and problem-solve quickly and effectively.Organize information, people, and resources.Function independently with minimal supervision.Work collaboratively with and through others.Handle diverse responsibilities concurrently.Train employees and families.FINAL FILING DATE:
