As the university’s largest school, H&S serves as the foundation of a Stanford undergraduate education no matter which discipline students pursue as a major.Position Summary: The Department of Biology is seeking a highly self-motivated and experienced PhD scientist (Academic Program Professional 2). The position will directly report to Professor Judith Frydman and conduct research focused on cell biology for aging and neurodegenerative diseases. The position will join a large and dynamic interdisciplinary lab and must demonstrate a strong desire to assist in developing and deploying human cell models of aging to study mechanisms of human disease and complement animal models. This position must be able to work independently and have excellent organization, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail and have a track-record of excellence.This is a 100% FTE, continuing position, exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need.CORE DUTIES:Develop and manage research programs by conducting research activities, including outreach to varied stakeholders within the program, assigning resources and making program improvement recommendations that impact policies and programs.Identify, recommend and implement opportunities for new research.Source, collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.Teach and/or assist in the teaching and administration of courses. Develop curriculum and curriculum-rating surveys, provide detailed feedback on courses, and make recommendations for preliminary overview and changes.Write and/or edit complex content for proposals, research grants, peer-reviewed publications, and other program activities.Contribute to and inform on strategic program/entity planning and related funding and financial sustainability.May advise students and/or coach/mentor clients.Develop or contribute to outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising/funding.Coach and mentor program staff.Other duties may also be assigned.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:● Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.Ability to oversee and direct staff.Basic knowledge of managing budgets and developing financial plans.Preferred Requirements:PhD degree in cell biology, biochemistry, neuroscience or related scientific field with at least 5 years of relevant research experience in academia and/or industry.Strong background in molecular biology, cell biology, and mammalian cell culture.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles.Experience with cell reprogramming, microscopic imaging analysis and novel bio-assay technology development.Strong oral, written and analytical skills and excellent judgment.Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance is essential.Ability to lead, oversee and provide guidance to lab members.Basic knowledge of managing grant budgets.WORKING CONDITIONS:● May travel locally. Occasional overnight travel.The expected pay range for this position is $111,866 to $146,847 per annum.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
