Product Communications Senior Manager (Rare Disease)
In this role you will lead the development and implementation of communications initiatives that advance Amgen’s medicine for Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) and efforts in the TED, endocrinology, and ophthalmology communities. You will report to the Senior Director, Product Communications (Rare Disease) and manage the Manager, Product Communications (Rare Disease) dedicated to TED.
Your work will be in close partnership with functional teams (e.g. marketing, advocacy, medical, clinical) and focused on creating meaningful impact through a range of communication channels (including social) and programs in the TED community.
This role will be preferably based in Deerfield/Chicago, IL (hybrid). Remote positions may be considered.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement communications strategies that support brand objectives in collaboration with the commercial, medical, and advocacy teams.
Partner with marketing and medical affairs teams to advance brand and disease awareness messages through communications channels, internal and external experts, and maximize reach of campaign initiatives.
Foster community engagement and connection to TED related resources, support, and information through social media, including: Pages about TED and TEPEZZA; emphasis on Facebook and Instagram.
Content creation/curation, community management.
Video content, including live event management.
Influencer mapping and engagement.
Optimization and analysis of performance.
Direct communications initiatives that create a more engaged patient community seeking its best possible care: Create and deliver impactful awareness campaigns that engage influential community leaders and advocacy organizations as well as people living with TED.
Coordinate closely with Amgen’s Patient Advocacy Team to activate the TED patient community; ensuring that our efforts truly reflect the patient voice and provide real positive support, resources, and impact for the communities we serve.
Identify opportunities to amplify events or programs, incorporate patient voices and maximize reach within communities.
Provide leadership for the manager, product communications for milestone communications plans, social media engagements, and awareness activities.
Manage the development of multimedia content elevating patient stories; direct agency development of content and manage multiple layers of review and distribution.
Craft FAQs, press releases, presentations, and develop communications materials in support of brand initiatives, programs, and events for both internal and external audiences as appropriate.
In partnership with agency and enterprise media lead, develop stories and pitches for media outreach; manage and guide external agencies around appropriate media pitches, spokespeople, and message training.
Collaborate with corporate communications team to integrate brand-related initiatives into corporate communications efforts such as: Employee communications, including employee intranet site.
External communications, including Amgen.com and several social media platforms.
Create messaging and response documents anticipating and addressing crisis and issues.
Ensure product marketing content is aligned with the organization's brand and formatted to drive positive customer behavior.

OR Master’s degree and 4 years of Corporate Communications, Corporate Affairs or Marketing.
OR Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of Corporate Communications, Corporate Affairs or Marketing.
OR Associate’s degree and 10 years of Corporate Communications, Corporate Affairs or Marketing.
OR High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Corporate Communications, Corporate Affairs or Marketing.
Preferred Qualifications: Innovative thinker with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action-oriented plans and developing/implementing new creative initiatives.
Demonstrated pharma/healthcare social media strategy and execution experience. Industry experience (either public relations agency or in-house biotechnology pharmaceutical company) strongly preferred.
Self-motivated with outstanding interpersonal, team, and collaboration skills.
Advanced knowledge and experience in social media, including community management and strategy.
Able to manage multiple priorities, establishing and maintaining effective and efficient channels of communication with new media and opinion leaders.
Proven ability to translate complex data into consumer-facing messages and materials.
Independently judges risks and benefits from a communication perspective and makes a persuasive case for taking calculated risks in the organization’s best interest.
Shows organizational courage by tactfully challenging executives when providing communications counsel and feedback.
Applies sound judgment and innovative thinking to resolve problems and maximize opportunities.
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications or journalism or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires approximately 20% travel, including some overnight and weekend commitments.
