Position Purpose
Reporting to the Content Director, the position plans, writes, and edits highly technical digital and print content that helps tell the story of standards on behalf of ASTM International's flagship publication, Standardization News. This includes writing full-length features for each of SN's bimonthly print editions (6x per year), web-friendly digital content for SN Online as assigned, and other special content assignments as needed. Along with the Content Director, the position manages the bimonthly print production process, as well as the proofreading and copyediting of all SN print issues.
The incumbent also supports the Content Director and the Communications Department as a whole in the planning, assigning, and writing of non-promotional, non-advertising, business related content for ASTM's business units. This includes supporting the creation of: White papers, case studies, technical reports, executive summaries, e-newsletters, as well as expanded future content projects as needed and required.

Duties Include:
- Writing compelling, full-length feature journalism pieces for print and online, helping to tell the story of standards in general and ASTM as an organization.
- Support the creation of business-related content by helping to plan, write, review, edit, and proofread business and/or technical content projects as needed (White papers, case studies, technical reports, executive summaries, e-newsletters, as well as future projects as needed.)
- Manages translation and production of Spanish (6x per year) and Chinese (2x per year) editions of Standardization News in conjunction with staff representatives from Latin America and China.
- Manages schedules/workloads and reviews/proofreads content of the Standardization News team of freelance writers.
- In addition to feature and online content, writes and/or manages multiple regular print columns (How To, Regs Corner, Interview, News, and Data Points).
- Represents communications department on Professor of the Year and Graduate Scholarship Committees.
- Tracks and strategizes future content based on traffic-based metrics from Google Analytics, with support from digital engagement manager.
- Collaborates closely with graphics, IT, multimedia, Technical Committee Operations, Global, and other ASTM units.
- Represents Corporate Communications department on high-level teams and organization-wide initiatives as needed.
- Hosting ASTM's "Standards Impact" podcast as needed, developing compelling interview questions and segments.
- Writing and creating editorial content and promotional content in support of "Standards Impact."
- Copyedit and review public site content for ASTM.org in conjunction with Senior Manager, Digital Engagement.
- Assist in management of organizational CMS, optimizing search, tagging content, and raising profile of ASTM's web presence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or related area.
- 5-7 years of experience writing and creating content across all platforms; print experience a plus. • Experience managing direct reports a plus.
- Experience regularly disseminating content via social media; large professional social media network a plus.
- Superior storytelling, writing, copy editing, and proofreading skills.
- Passion for and/or interest in STEM-related content.
- Ability to think strategically about content development and dissemination, integrating it with organizational priorities.
- Sense of urgency with ability to be nimble, shifting priorities and projects quickly.
- Experience interviewing high-level executives representing industries and governments.
- Some experience with management of external vendors.
- Ability to easily translate technical information into easily understandable language.
- Skill with design/layout (Adobe InCopy, InDesign), content management systems, and html programs.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a wide range of individuals.
