Job Description

Under the direction of the COO and serving as an integral member of the SGS North America senior management team, the Vice President, Life Science Services (LSS) North America provides executive leadership to position the company for growth, and profitability in accordance with Company objectives. Responsible for all aspects of financial P&L, operations, performance, business development and sales.
  • Oversees Life Science Services business operations to insure production efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
  • Works closely with Global team to develop a strategic plan to advance the company's mission and objectives and to drive revenue, profitability, and growth, including expansion and delivery of new services and M&A
  • Offers leadership, insight, ingenuity and coaching to maintain organization's value proposition both to its clients, its staff, and the community at large.
  • Creates and supports the optimal structure to deliver growth and profitability.
  • Plans, develops, and implements strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for the company.
  • Assures, in concert with the management team, a common, clear and executable marketing strategy.
  • Develops a business plan for the growth of the LSS business services in the US and Canada.
  • Develops new services/products and concepts for the assigned market segment.
  • Develops the LSS business lines throughout the region both organically and through acquisitions.
  • Identifies acquisition and merger opportunities and directs implementation activities.
  • Works with other business line managers to promote SGS services to enhance opportunities.
  • Organizes and assigns resources and staff to accomplish annual and long-range goals.
  • Sets standards for performance in all areas of the organization; periodically reviews reports on programs: models accepted leadership behaviors and works as a member of the leadership team.
  • Develops operating budget and short/long term business plans that are complete, attainable, and consistent with the goals and objectives of the Business.
  • Approves Business operational procedures, policies, and standards.
  • Reviews activity reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives and revise objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions.
  • Evaluates performance of direct reports for compliance with established policies and objectives of the company and contributions in attaining objectives.
  • Assures the integrity and ethical operation of the organization.
  • Assures a safe working environment and establishes and maintains a culture of safe operations.
  • Provides support and leads by example in all areas of operation integrity, respect and customer service.
  • Promotes LSS business to local, regional, national, and international constituencies.
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • University degree in a Science related field (Life Science, Pharmaceutical, Chemistry etc.) required.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience managing a profitable business or large division within a business required.
  • Over 10 years of experience in an operations/management role in a related field required.
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution required.
  • MBA in combination with described above experience preferred.
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical laboratory service (CRO) industry preferred.
  • Experience in Service Industry
  • Language Skills: English - Advanced level of proficiency required, French and Spanish is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of the North American (US and Canada) Biopharmaceutical/Pharmaceutical market is preferred.
  • Mathematical Skills: Intermediate level
  • Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Advanced level
  • Computer Skills: Intermediate level user of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations and communicate effectively at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with officials at all levels of business and government and to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Strong ability to collaborate across SGS business lines.

  • Ability to define direction, establish and execute goals for multi-site, diverse business line operation(s).
