The Value You Deliver

During your Co-Op, you will work on strategic, high-priority projects addressing the critical initiatives of our business. Typically, these projects focus in the areas of Direct Marketing, Digital Marketing and Big Data analysis while working with data across a multitude of channels, (i.e. branches, call centers, websites, mobile apps, chat, email, etc.). Potential business projects are scale data quality practices, multi-channel customer engagement insight, AI standards or marketing measurement and analytics.

The Data Science Co-Op will have an opportunity to work on projects that will have a direct impact to the Fidelity business. Working closely with a team of data scientists, they will support advanced analytics/data science/AI projects such as:

Develop predictive models to help identify prospective customers and recommend benefit solutions to existing customers.
Design and execute A/B experiments to measure the impact of new tools, processes, and models on key business indicators of sales.
Investigate new data sources to evaluate their usefulness in predictive modeling projects; generate new data using techniques like adversarial networks and textual data extraction.
Apply natural language processing and knowledge graph to identify trends and relationships in textual data to enhance customer relationship management activities.
Use explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) and effective data visualization techniques to help associates understand model predictions and justify business decisions.
Analysis and comparison of advanced experimental design methods in business settings based on literature reviews and Monte Carlo simulations.
Partner with AI/ML engineers to design, implement, and automate complete end-to-end data science pipelines using cloud technologies.
Leverage AI/ML anomaly detection techniques to mitigate fraudulent account issues.
Analyze multidimensional time series data and build models to predict and mitigate critical infrastructure failures.

The Expertise You Have

We are seeking talent who is working on their Master's or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Math, Statistics, Operations Research, Information Technology, Physics, Marketing, Economics, Finance, Business Administration or Operations Research to join us for a robust 26-week co-op internship.
  • Two years of relevant work experience prior to entering master's program preferred.
  • A strong Python programmer with demonstrated proficiency in data extraction, data engineering, data analysis, machine learning, data modeling and pipeline automation.
  • An ability to write object-oriented solutions and to package together and streamline existing models is preferred.
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Knowledge of natural language processing including text preprocessing, named entity recognition, fuzzy matching, sentiment analysis, and/or knowledge graph.
  • A strong interest in learning and applying explainable artificial intelligence methods, such as Explainable Boosting Machines, LIME, and SHAP.
  • Proficient technical writing skills with an ability to explain complex data science, statistics, and computer science concepts clearly for a nontechnical audience.
  • An aspiring analyst with prestigious skills in Excel or statistical tools to analyze data. These skills will be applied to inform business strategies via insights, digital analytics, measurement, consumer research or trend analysis and statistical modelling.
  • Experience with industry standard data visualization tools (Qlik, Tableau, etc.) and tangible examples of both presenting data visually as well as using visualizations to deliver new insights.
  • Strong background in SQL and experience in data engineering or ETL.
  • Ability to ask the right business questions, evaluate digital experience, recognize trends and opportunities, and build a story that convinces business partners to take actions.
  • A willingness and capacity to learn new tools quickly.
