The Terminal Operator's - Loader primary responsibility is to safely and timely unload rail cars to trucks and storage, within the terminal facility. The Terminal Operator will understand, and follow, operating procedures and policies.
Full-time position, some overtime may be required, must be flexible.
Responsibilities / Job Duties:
•Daily unloading of rail cars carrying Hazardous materials.
•Must have the ability to understand and follow operating procedures and policies.
•Ability to operate rail car loading systems, including an articulated front-end loader.
Includes: vehicles with manual transmission and yard tractor
•Required to perform work safely and productively.
•Willingness in being cross-trained on all functions at the terminal facility.
•Must possess a strong work ethic and the willingness to follow procedures.
•Keep work area clean and organized.
•Must not be afraid to ask questions.
•Read and write clearly and accurately fill out all required paperwork.
•Enforce all safety policies and procedures with other employees and visitors.
•Perform general maintenance on equipment, as necessary.
•Assist with facility maintenance such as general maintenance, landscape upkeep, and painting, as needed.
•Work independently and in a team setting in a helpful and professional manner.
•Interact with customers, railroad crews, and visitors, in a professional manner.
•Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications:
•Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
•Perform basic math skills.
•Light computer skills would be a plus.
•Possess a valid Driver's License.
•Capable of learning how to operate and maintain rail car and trans-loading equipment (hoses, portable conveyors, small to medium-sized equipment, etc.).
•Must have a willingness to learn new skills and be teachable.
•Must be available for a full-time shift, M - F 6 AM - 6 PM, Sat 6 AM-12 PM
Education/Experience:
•High School Diploma or GED equivalent
•Minimum 1-2 years of experience handling bulk material, especially lumber material
•Experience driving and operating an articulated front loader
•Willing to work with liquid hazardous & dry bulk materials, as needed
Physical Requirements:
•Physically able to climb up and down rail cars and ladders, safely for an extended period.
•Work outside in ALL weather conditions (snow, rain, sub-freezing temps, etc).
•Lift and carry fifty (50) pounds consistently.
•Walk one (1) to two (2) miles per shift.
Entry level operator - 1-2 years of experience in equipment operations in industry similar to transloading
Intermediate level operator - 3-5 years of experience in rail car transloading, conveyor operations, heavy equipment operator, willing to cross train in other forms of transloading, able to lead others
Senior level operator - 5-10 years of transloading experience, proficient in all forms of transloading, self-starter, manage day to day yard operations.
