Communications and Outreach Specialist to play an essential role in connecting our innovation ecosystem through storytelling and engagement. The position best suits someone with strong writing skills, an interest in science and innovation, and who enjoys working on a small, collaborative team. This team member will develop and execute strategic communication plans, enhance our visibility, and manage outreach efforts to engage key stakeholders, including entrepreneurs, investors, partners, and the broader community. This role requires a blend of creativity and strategic thinking to effectively promote our mission and initiatives.ResponsibilitiesCommunication Strategy and Execution:

Develop comprehensive communication strategies to promote Grid Catalyst’s programs, startup cohorts, and events.

Create compelling content for various platforms, including newsletters, social media, and the organization’s website.

Manage the production of marketing materials such as flyers and presentations. This may include coordinating contributions from third-party graphic designers.

Develop strategic content for media campaigns and announcements, including communication kits.

Outreach and Community Engagement:

Plan and execute outreach campaigns to connect with potential startups and innovators, partners, sponsors, and community organizations.

Organize and manage events such as networking meetups, workshops, and conferences to enhance community engagement.

Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders to maintain strategic partnerships.

Social Media and Online Presence:

Develop and manage social media content across platforms, primarily LinkedIn and Twitter.

Track and analyze social media metrics to optimize engagement and reach.

Stay apprised of new platforms and opportunities to increase Grid Catalyst’s reach to target audiences

Oversee the upkeep of the organization’s website and ensure it reflects current activities and initiatives.

Grant and Report Writing:

Support research of emerging grant opportunities.

Develop content to support grant opportunities and reports to funders.

Create a content library for the organization to streamline grant development.

Visual Design Development and Coordination:

Manage the Canva portfolio for communication needs.

Develop graphics for various campaigns (using Canva, Adobe, or other products).

Manage external graphic designers as needed to support special projects.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience in communications, marketing, outreach, or a related role, preferably in the energy or technology sectors.

Experience with developing and executing communication plans.

Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in social media platforms, digital marketing tools, and content management systems.

Experience with graphic management or Canva.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related communications, business, or scientific field.

Strong interest in energy, climate, or entrepreneurship.

Knowledge of energy and environmental topics.

Experience with community organizing.

LogisticsThis is a hybrid position open to candidates located in Minnesota. Work will primarily be remote, with co-working space available in Minneapolis. Occasional in-person event attendance, mostly in the Twin Cities, is required.
