Join us as we uncover the stories and inspirations behind her music.Hi Simone, please tell us a little about yourself.

Hi! A little bit about me: I’m from New York City. I got my first guitar when I was 10, and thatwas about the time when I started writing songs. I’ve been playing my music around New Yorksince I was 11. I really don’t remember a time when I wasn’t performing. Songwriting is how Iunderstand the world. It gets me through my life.Describe your sound in three words.

Emotional, authentic, and classic.Who influenced you, and why did you choose to make music?

My family was a big influence on me growing up and still is. I was always surrounded bycreativity and encouraged to express myself how I wanted to. I just found so much freedom inmusic. It was the only way I knew how to communicate. Instead of talking about how I wasfeeling, I would sing about it.Do you play any instruments?

Guitar is my favorite instrument to play. I write all my songs on guitar and always have. I love toplay piano, too, and I’ve played bass, ukulele, and mandolin at some shows.I’m a perpetually nervous person. Everything makes me nervous. I just went on my first tour, and I think playing that many shows in a row helped me get over some of my pre-show nerves.I finally got to experience what it’s like to perform without feeling like throwing up before goingon stage. I think a big part of it, too, is being comfortable with the idea of messing up. For thelongest time I was so afraid to forget a lyric or play the chord wrong. I don’t stress about thosethings as much anymore. You just gotta laugh it off, and the crowd will laugh with you.Tell us about your new single, “Linger”. What’s the story behind the song?

“Linger” is a song that I wrote back in 2021, so it’s pretty surreal that it’s finally out in the world.I remember writing the first verse and putting it down for months because I had no idea wherethe song should go. When I brought it in to the studio to finish, it finally hit me that this songwas about remembering. I think there’s an experience that happens after a breakup where youbecome so far removed from a person and their life, but you still have all of these moments youshared with them that you’ll never be able to fully forget. It’s a weird feeling cause you don’treally know what to do with those memories. They just linger. Were there any specific experiences or emotions that fueled the writing and composition of this

song?

When I wrote this song, and the entire EP, I was at a time in my life where I was thinking a lotabout the past. This song and the entire EP are really explorations of experiences I had overthe course of a couple years that really shaped me. I wanted to really capture the feeling of notbeing able to get rid of someone because you aren’t letting yourself let go. It’s a feeling Idefinitely know well. How do you usually start working on a new song? Do you begin with lyrics, melodies, or a

concept?

My songwriting process changes all the time. Recently, it’s been very stream of consciousness. I tryto pick up the guitar every day and see what happens. Through whatever gibberish I startsinging, I can always kind of tell what I’m trying to say. Songwriting is always about the storyfor me, so I always need to know what story I want to tell, and then I put the pieces togetherfrom there. How involved were you in the production and arrangement of “Linger”?

I’m very involved in every creative aspect of my music. The more say I have in what I’mmaking, the happier I am with the product. I’m really lucky because I got to work with JakeFinch and Collin Pastore for the production of this EP, and they’re so willing to collaborate. Inever felt like the smaller voice in the room, which was a very new experience for me. I’m sograteful for their willingness to go wherever I wanted to go with these songs. What book should every entrepreneur read?

I don’t know about entrepreneur specifically, but I would definitely recommend “Big Magic” byElizabeth Gilbert for any creative person. That booking completely changed how I look at thecreative process. She’s brilliant. What advice would you give to your younger self, and why?

I would tell my younger self not to bleach her hair, because she looked stupid. What’s next for Simone in 2024?

There’s a lot of music in store for this year and I’m so excited to share it all. I’m really proud ofthis EP and I can’t wait for people to hear it in full. I’m also writing my next project, which hasbeen so much fun. I’m really happy with the music I’m making and putting out, which is alwaysthe most important thing. How would you explain your fashion style?

I only wear things that I think Lorelai Gilmore would approve of. That influences every fashiondecision I make.If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?

The first person that popped into my head was Jonathan Larson. I think he’s one of the mostbrilliant and innovative storytellers of all time. The first kind of performance I ever did wasmusical theatre, so I have so much appreciation for that world and everything that Jonathancreated. His story is so beautiful and so tragic.Where can we follow you?
