Minimum Qualifications Required to Apply
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (Screening Criteria) Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented with sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above and one year experience in the operation of a motor vehicle.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS* Possession and maintenance of a valid and appropriate California Commercial Drivers License, with applicable passenger, air brake, and school bus endorsements.* Possession of a valid California Special Driver Certificate endorsed for the operation of a school bus with restrictions "0", "1", "0, 6", or "1, 6".* Possession of a valid medical examiners card (DL51A).* A valid first aid certification card issued by the American Red Cross or other agency approved by the California Highway Patrol, if applicable.* No "moving violations" within two (2) years preceding the application date. No accidents within three (3) years preceding the application date, except that the applicant was not at fault or caused the accident as documented in an official report filed by a law enforcement agency. No DMV point count that exceeds two (2) points in the twenty-four (24) months preceding the date of application.MUST ATTACH ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO APPLICATION AT THE TIME OF APPLYING.Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Drive a school bus over designated routes in accordance with specified time schedules and in accordance with regulations and laws related to pupil transportation in California following specified schedules; transport students to and from school, special events and field trips. Pick up and discharge students at established bus stops; stop traffic and escort students across streets and roadways as needed to assure student safety; report incidents which affect the safety of students. Maintain bus in a safe operating condition through prescribed daily vehicle inspections and driver maintenance, including cleaning windows, mirrors and bus interior; inspect and maintain fuel, oil and water levels; inspect brakes, brake lights, belts and doors; report mechanical defects and malfunctions to appropriate personnel according to CHP regulations. Fuel and clean exterior and interior of buses including picking up debris, sweeping and mopping floor, wiping upholstery, removing graffiti and cleaning headlights. Maintain order and discipline among students on bus following District policies and procedures regarding disciplining of students and contact with school officials and parents. Transport physically handicapped and mentally handicapped children to and from designated locations as assigned; lift and secure wheel chairs; assist in the loading and unloading of handicapped children as necessary. Maintain records concerning daily vehicle inspections, miles driven and number of children transported and other related matters; prepare student conduct, incident and accident reports as required. Utilize two-way radio for bus to bus and bus to base communication.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities / Working Conditions
KNOWLEDGE OF: Safe driving practices. Provisions of the California State Motor Vehicle code, California Highway Patrol and Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles transporting students. First aid practices. Proper operation of wheelchair lift and methods of securing handicapped students on a school bus. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Basic record-keeping techniques. Health and safety regulations. Traffic laws, defensive driving techniques and rules of the road.ABILITY TO: Operate a school bus over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students. Maintain order and discipline among students while driving a school bus. Maintain assigned vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition. Recognize equipment malfunctions and take appropriate action. Learn designated bus routes including stops and traffic hazards. Maintain routine records. Work cooperatively with others. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Meet schedules and time lines. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Learn, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Observe legal and defensive driving practices. Assist in loading and unloading handicapped children as necessary. Lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
The District offers paid Medical, Dental, Vision up to $21,528.60 and $30,000 Life Insurance.
