The AVP IT Procurement provides leadership at a national level on the Technology Procurement teams for the Canadian Business, ensuring contract and vendor governance to ensure compliance with local and group policies, identifying improvements to service delivery, leading change and innovation, and generating financial benefit to directly impact P&L results of the Canadian division as a whole. Drives performance of the supply chain through proactive vendor management, resulting in bottom line growth via more favourable commercial terms with Aviva technology suppliers and greater recovery of leaks. The financial impact to the business is benefits to improve our expense ratio and lower indemnity cost and provides the standard methodology and consistency of process whilst ensuring that risk is managed across all suppliers and to protect customers.

The AVP, IT Procurement is responsible for making Procurement a strategic business enabler and partner to IT with regard to the Canadian IT spend portfolio. Aviva Canada is undergoing a major transformation, especially in the digital space, and this role will be integral to the success of the technology transformation journey. As such, this role will be the lead procurement liaison and business partner with IT senior leadership, including the CIO and other leaders, to proactively develop IT category strategies, roadmap, and complete procurement delivery through negotiation and contract strategies for high risk/ sophisticated and sensitive sourcing initiatives.

What you'll do:
  • The role is a member of the Procurement Leadership Team and reports directly to the VP of Procurement and Corporate Services.
  • Provides leadership at a National Level for crafting and delivering the IT procurement strategy to reflect business needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement agreed upon strategies and supervise progress, taking action as vital to achieve targets and improvements in cost, quality, service and innovation
  • Identify, recommend, negotiate, implement contractual changes as required in order to ensure costs and services evolve to match changing business needs and priorities
  • Run procurement processes (RFx, presentations, vendor selections)
  • Monitor internal customer satisfaction and take appropriate action to ensure contracted services continue to meet internal customer expectations.
  • Influence senior and regional collaborators to achieve joint understanding of and dedication to supply chain activities, including procurement, vendor management and vendor governance.
  • Proactively participate in strategic developments that impact the claims supply chain especially any investments, outsourcing initiatives or policy changes
  • Looking for and capitalizing appropriate opportunities to adopt global and / or regional resourcing arrangements and supply chain commonalities that will deliver cost savings and / or service improvements
  • Lead negotiations with top suppliers to deliver contractual arrangements which represent the best possible commercial deal
  • Accountable for the consistency of methods, encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing and facilitate the adoption of standard methodology of procurement and vendor management.
  • Developing relationships and influencing senior internal partners to raise awareness of supply chain to achieve joint understanding and dedication to goals.
  • Accountable for the continuous review, development and improvement of the technology supply chain to ensure continued strategic alignment with the needs of the businesses and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, empower, develop and focus the IT Procurement team members to ensure delivery of the required standards of excellence in service and performance and support the continuing personal and professional development of all team members.
  • Interacting on an executive level within Aviva Canada to ensure that tactics and sourcing related activities address IT team's needs
  • Becoming a trusted advisor and business partner to the CIO
  • Setting a strategic direction and vision for the IT category managers to support the IT team's transformation objectives
  • Providing strategic oversight and advice to IT category managers and the IT team on transformation initiatives such as risk mitigation and contracting / outsourcing strategy
  • Implementing, driving sourcing IT products and services.
  • Leading a supplier management and outsourcing organization.
  • Leading dispute resolution processes
  • Leading key negotiations
  • Managing IT supplier contracts
  • Responsible for the IT category management team to deliver cost savings / avoidance


What you'll bring:
  • University Bachelor's degree required
  • Supply Chain designation and financial background preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience, including people management experience
  • Ability to influence across the organization both cross-functionally, cross-geographically and cross-seniority
  • Ability to work and lead team in multi-functional environment with competing priorities and timelines, while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task and to be able to change directions / priority rapidly
  • Work independently to carry out sophisticated work requirements as needed, working on multiple projects simultaneously

What you'll get:
  • The salary band for this position ranges from $113,500 to $210,900. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
