This position has a specific education requirement; all applicants must verify completion of this basic education requirement by submitting a copy of their college transcripts by the closing date of the vacancy announcement.
A. All applicants must have the following basic degree requirement of a Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statistics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of material (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable areas of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics

B. Combination of education and experience - college level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:

Key Requirements
- Must be a current, permanent FBI employee
- Must be able to obtain an SCI clearance
- Some travel may be required
- Selectee will be required to complete form FD-887, Request for Access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)
- Serves as a subject matter expert in a wide range of technology related investigations. Performs exploitation or enhancement of evidentiary items, produces demonstrative videos for court purposes, and oversees the testing, evaluation, installation, and maintenance of advanced technology techniques.
- Provides expert forensic analysis of evidence in cases that involve multiple submissions which may require opinion testimony. This involves in-depth analysis of evidence, ensuring accuracy and reliability for legal proceedings.
- Project management, research, and providing professional engineering consultation services including presentations.
- May serve as contracting officer's technical representative on contracts for highly complex devices or systems in support of the assigned programs and projects, both for the FBI and Intelligence Community Projects.
- Will work closely with Supervisory Physical Scientists on R&D projects. Will be expected to collaborate with other government agency and industry professionals.

- Professional registration - Current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
- Written Test - Evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-In-Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional registration, which is administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
- Specified academic courses - Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum as described in paragraph A.
- Related curriculum - Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a Bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided that the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
Specialized Experience (SE):
GS-14: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
- Experience in electronics engineering and technology advancements to provide critical insights. Applied cutting-edge techniques for a comprehensive understanding of data.
- Knowledge of the latest advancements in technology and methodologies, ensuring that analysis procedures remained at the forefront of the field.
- Experience in applying principles, theories, and methods of electronics engineering in a professional context, staying well-versed in the current research literature.
- Experience in establishing safety and quality procedures throughout project execution, guaranteeing that projects and assignments were completed with the utmost precision and adherence to quality standards.
- Experience in drafting, briefing, and presenting case reports and requests for information to both internal and external stakeholders, including senior-level scientists. Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills to facilitate collaboration and convey findings.

- Relocation expenses will be borne by the selectee, except FBI employees returning from LEGAT assignment. Employees returning from LEGAT assignments must advise the Staffing and Administrative Unit / International Operations Division of their application for this position.
- Current tax law impacts your transfer by making your moving expense reimbursements taxable. Please contact Transfer_Issues for information regarding taxable expenses. Federal Travel Regulation provides that the Withholding Tax Allowance (WTA) plus the Relocation Income Tax Allowance (RITA) are designed to "substantially reimburse" an employee for the additional Federal, State, and Local taxes associated with a change of duty station and the FBI has the authority to compensate employees through the WTA and RITA.
- Candidates receiving a transfer of physical location, whether at the expense of the FBI or not, will be required to complete a one year commitment to the assignment, prior to moving to a new position at the FBI. The 12-month waiting period begins the day an employee reports for duty at the new location.
- Employees selected for promotions at the GS-12 level or higher, as well as employees selected for positions where a transfer of location is required, will be processed through the name check program prior to being notified of their selection.
- Memorandum for Record: Work performed outside assigned duties (that would not normally be documented on a SF-50, i. e., back-up duties), has to be documented in detail by an immediate supervisor in order to receive full credit for amount of time worked in that position.
