About the Role:

S&P Global Commodity Insights is looking for a Senior Solar Analyst to join our Clean Energy Technology research team. The analyst will work alongside a broad range of cleantech industry analysts developing independent and granular solar market outlooks for the United States and Canada.

The Team

S&P Global Commodity Insights is looking for a Senior Solar Analyst to join our Clean Energy Technology research team. The analyst will work alongside a broad range of cleantech industry analysts developing independent and granular solar market outlooks for the United States and Canada.

In general, we are a young team that prioritizes collaboration and a culture of learning. The analyst will enjoy working with colleagues on a global team from different backgrounds. The team culture is a relatively flat hierarchy, meaning you are encouraged to communicate and collaborate with anyone from junior analyst up to the director of the division. Lastly, the team is composed of mostly remote workers which means we rely on self-driven and trustworthy individuals.

Responsibilities and Impact
  • Collect, manage and analyze market data to track and identify market trends in the US solar industry.
  • Create high quality quantitative and quality market reports analyzing the status and outlook for the US solar industries.
  • Work with a large and global analyst team to co-ordinate viewpoints and align data and forecasts.
  • Develop excellent relationships with companies involved in solar industry to better understand their perspectives, views, opinions and needs as well as present to them our views, forecasts and advice.
  • Write and distribute regular research notes that analyze latest news and developments in the solar industry to both clients and press.
  • Support client requests by providing quick and comprehensive answers to questions about research findings. On-site and by phone presentations are regularly required.
  • Work with our global sales and marketing teams to promote our research, and support client renewals to ensure commercial targets are met.
  • Some occasional domestic and international travel may be required.

Internal List
  • Interdisciplinary - ability to maintain a network of industry professionals, analyze datasets and create forecast models, and present complex data concisely via written reports or speaking at industry events-
  • Provide valuable insights to companies in the industry (from start ups to corporations) that influences strategy and decision-making
  • Connect with senior members of utilities, developers, manufacturers, etc. in the industry to gather primary data for research.
  • Become a thought leader in solar PV and storage industry (the big picture) but also spend time in the weeds of the research cycle (news tracking, project entry, interview chasing, assisting internal consulting teams, etc.).


What We're Looking For

Basic Required Qualifications:
  • 2-4 years experience in market analysis; directly related experience within the solar or energy storage industry is preferred, but not essential (if they have experience in the power industry such as wind, gas, etc.).
  • Knowledge of MS applications required (Excel, Word and PowerPoint); experience with databases highly preferred.
  • Good oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Organization skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Relevant University degree (Bachelors, with a preference for degrees such as Environmental Science, Engineering, Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Sustainability Studies, Mathematics, etc., but not essential).

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, Geography.
  • Graduate degree highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Spanish.
