The Team

The Legal team at Arta is looking for a senior product and regulatory counsel who is passionate about financial access, and driving innovation through compliant financial products and services. As an early-stage legal team member, you'll lead decision-making on all aspects from product ideation to product launch and marketing. Come develop and shape the legal team and Arta to reach a new generation of wealth management clients.

The Role

We are expanding our legal team and looking for our second legal team member who can help build the team and think through and build legally sound products and services, and help forge strategic partnerships to enable Arta to reach more people in more countries. There's a lot to do, and we want to do it the right way.

The Senior Product and Regulatory Counsel role is responsible for supporting the day-to-day business activities and legal requirements of the investment management and financial advisory, and broker-dealer products offered by Arta. Reporting into the General Counsel and working closely with the Compliance and Product teams, you'll be responsible for shaping the development, launch, and growth of a portfolio of products aimed at modernizing equities investing.

What You Will Do
  • Advising team members on relevant legal issues of the business
  • Advising on products and features from conception through development and delivery
  • Managing risks in business operations and decisions
  • Assist with the development of new lines of business and financial advisory products by: (1) embedding yourself in the project development team upon project launch (2) working closely and proactively with other team members to identify potential legal and regulatory issues (3) crafting compliant solutions that avoid or minimize inefficient use of product and design and engineering resources and speed product launches and (4) drafting related agreements, policies, procedures and disclosures.
  • Assist in managing interactions with the SEC, FINRA and other regulatory authorities.
  • Interface with outside counsel.


Who You Are
  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least 1 U.S. state bar
  • 7+ years of legal practice experience as a practicing attorney in a law firm or in-house experience with a bank, broker-dealer, trust company or wealth management firm
  • Experience with consumer-facing technology and/or financial services companies
  • Familiarity and experience working with regulators, including the SEC and FINRA
  • Track record of developing practical solutions to novel problems
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • Based in the Bay area or NY tri-state area.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Drafting and document review skills for account documentation and disclosures including investment management agreements, brokerage agreements, trust or custody agreements, and related documentation.
    • Solid research skills and the ability to formulate solid legal advice and strategies

Arta's Compensation Philosophy

We determine your level based on factors including your interview performance, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Our offers are based on salary bands that are updated periodically using market benchmarks and consider geographic location as well (for example, higher cost regions like San Francisco or New York). If you are presented with an offer, we will review the base salary, benefits, number of options, notional option value and strike price. We would like to know if you accept our offer within 7 days.

Please keep in mind that the equity portion of your offer is not included in these numbers and represents a significant part of your total compensation.

IC II: $160,000-$230,000
IC III: $180,000-$300,000
