Senior Mortgage Loan Officer

Position Purpose: The Senior MLO will be responsible for individual sales and sales management of all MLO positions, as well as the administration and strategic direction of the mortgage function, including both portfolio and secondary market loans. The Senior MLO position will be supported by processing, underwriting, documentation and closing staff.

Essential Duties:
  • Originate mortgage loans individually, after consultation regarding product options, pricing, credit and suitability.
  • Manage all MLOs from a sales, performance and strategic perspective.
  • Deliver an exceptional customer experience for mortgage loan originations and closings.
  • Supervise and motivate processors, doc support and closing staff.
  • Recruit staff in concert with the HR department.
  • Recommend annual, individual and departmental goals for the mortgage function.
  • Produce monthly sales management reports, comparing actual performance versus budget and goal.
  • Submit monthly production reports to HR.
  • Monitor competition to ensure both portfolio and secondary market products are positioned in a manner that MLOs can compete and attain annual production goals. Recommendations should be submitted to the Management Loan Committee (MLC) for consideration and approval.
  • Identify, recommend and manage the necessary investor and broker relationships.
  • Cultivate, develop and manage relationships with centers of influence, realtors, builders and other professionals to ensure a consistent pipeline and viable mortgage function.
  • Engage in local market chamber and civic functions to maintain appropriate community relationships.
  • Seek opportunities to expand customer relationships by recommending other bank products and services and making referrals accordingly.
  • Coordinate sales efforts with the commercial lending and retail banking functions to evaluate and close qualifying mortgage referrals.
  • Partner with the Chief Credit Officer regarding underwriting activities.
  • Cooperate with Credit Administration regarding the Quality Control Program and loan review.
  • Maintain effective, efficient policies and procedures for the mortgage function.
  • Ensure separation of duties and proper internal controls.
  • Assume and assign responsibilities for mortgage origination software, including Calyx and ProClose in alignment with the IT Steering Committee (specifically, identify the Application Business Owner and Power User).
  • Provide ongoing training and educational support for all personnel within the mortgage function.
  • Comply with the provisions of the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (SAFE ACT) with regards to MLO registration on the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing and Registry (NMLS).
  • Maintain an effective and comprehensive knowledge of all regulations regarding mortgage.
