About the role:

Metropolitan Commercial Bank's (MCB) Enterprise Risk Management team is responsible for systemically managing risk, such that the Bank has a regular, comprehensive view of its risk profile as well as of key trends and emerging risks that could potentially affect MCB's overall risk profile. We ensure that Risk and senior leadership are consistently informed on the holistic risk profile, inclusive of financial and non-financial risks, in a way that facilitates strategic planning and risk decision making.

The Operational Risk Director will work within MBC's Enterprise Risk Management Department to lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive operational risk framework. The successful candidate will be an important leader and team player, assisting on other risk management projects as necessary. This position will report to the Director of Enterprise Risk Management and will be based in New York City.

This role requires an energetic self-starter that can liaise with stakeholders across the bank. Familiarity with the business, the operational risk framework, combined with strong analytical skills, interpersonal skills and being a problem solver are necessary for this role.

Duties and responsibilities of the job include the following (but is not limited too):
  • Oversee the operational risk framework within the second line of defense working closely with the first line whilst providing robust challenge.
  • Lead the operational risk event management framework and data collection, including the detailed reviews of significant events to ensure appropriate remediation plans are implemented, and identification of trends to identify significant or emerging risks.
  • Challenge business RCSA and Control Assessment ratings to ensure appropriate measurement approach and rationale has been employed.
  • Advance operational risk methods and practices to be best-in-class.
  • Lead the development of reports and presentations for senior management, executive committees, and regulatory exams and present to the Board and Committees, as needed.
  • Review and evaluate new business initiatives and firm acquisitions to identify changes to the operational risk profile of the division.

Preferred experience, education, and qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, risk management related certifications is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience within Risk Management (i.e., Compliance, Operational, Credit) within the financial services industry.
  • Knowledge of bank products, regulatory guidelines, BSA/AML/OFAC, UDAAP and Regulation E and other applicable regulations is a plus for growth in this position.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Knowledge of the RCSA process, internal controls, model risk, CCAR, operational risk loss estimation, and issue management.
  • Experience designing and implementing reports for executive and Board leadership.
  • Possess a strong risk and control mindset.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical and organizational skills required.
  • Experience in a project management office or project implementation in a risk-related field is a plus.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate well across all levels.
  • A self-starter with ability to prioritize workflow to ensure deadlines are met and ability to function efficiently under pressure.
  • Consumer Protection law/regulation background is a plus.
  • Perform quality work within determined timeframes
  • Interact professionally with other employees, customers, vendors and shareholders
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees, departments, divisions, etc.
  • Work on ad-hoc tasks, assignments and projects as needed

Potential Salary: $225,000 - $240,000 annually

This salary range only reflects base wages and does not include benefits, bonus, or incentive pay. Salary bands are purposefully wide ranging to encompass the different factors considered in determining where a candidate falls in the range, including but not limited to, seniority, performance, experience, education, and any other legitimate, non-discriminatory factor permitted by law.
